Gameshite - shite and retros in video games

So, we've all seen the computer games where there's every Ferrari under the sun with a million horsepower. But, it seems that even in the world of "gamez modderz" there are quite a few shiteists. Here's a few I have downloaded and enjoyed. Please note none of these are my work - I wouldn't know how to even begin - but there are huge numbers for an eye-watering number of games. These cars are for Test Drive Unlimited, and I got most of them from tducentral and tduaddons. I haven't posted the urls as they change slightly now and again, but for those interested, Google will find them.

Fast French Shite - I give you the Renner 11 Turbo

Scenetax old 2 door Passat. The modder of this one obviously got fed up and just lobbed an early Polo front end on it.

Non-ratted Mark 2 Goofs. These are actually a lot better than these stills make them appear

With the modding tools that are available, it's possible to give any car any physics/performance. Many shits and giggles occur when you PWN a Koenigsegg with your Barrified Samara.

I loved TU on the xbox, the new one has a lot to live up to.

How long does it take to complete a new model?

My favorite tat driving game was The Getaway, smoking around London in a Rover SD1

The sequel Black Monday had even more top quality shite.

I have to be honest and say I didn't go for the same sort of mods as Ashmicro, but I will go and get some just for a laugh later.

TDU had plenty of standard car shite americana though, slow, handle like oil tankers.

Shelby GT500, does that count as shite?

20100505011556.jpg

Compulsory to have the 'Eleanor' mod on that so it looks like this.

20091013001643.jpg

Pontiac Trans Am, no idea what year its supposed to be but its here anyway.

20091025195512.jpg

Then the mods, the Escrot Cosworth.

20091228221516.jpg

Range Rover Sport ?

Sorry if these are a bit large, will have a look at making them smaller on photobucket later.

The new game has indeed got a long way to go before it even matches the original. The car list has been published though and there are a lot of 'repeats' 5 different types of Zonda for example, just shows a lack of imagination really. An awful lot of the cars that were in TDU now appear in TDU2 as well.

I really hope they get it right before release. If they don't it could be the biggest let down of 2011.

Ah yes, this brings back some memories of when I had Midtown Madness 2 quite a few years ago when we had our first PC. I seriously got into downloading all sorts of cars from various sites including a Ford Sierra, Mercedes 190, Yugo, Mk1 Golf to name a few hundred, though they werent as nice and detailed as the ones above. Midtown was a pretty simple game with limited space. There was a similar physics/performance modding tool available for Midtown GR8 4 MAKIN YUGOz FLY lYKE A V6.

Gradually I got onto better games like GTA Vice City/San Andreas, I tried to download a car for Vice City but sadly it rendered the game unplayable. I just stuck to downloading cheats and stuff.

D1 Grand Prix 2005 on the PS2 includes an accurate-looking Charmant:

I used to love The Getaway games on the PS2, Black Monday had some great shite to drive about in like Ford Transits and Peugeot 406's as well as many others.

The first racing game i ever bought was Turbo Racing on the NES, I used to love playing it but looking back now, it was a bit shite really, it was just a track, a racing car and the same tree or post that kept passing by.

I think you can download the game here as well and relive the days when computer games had style... http://www.coolrom.com/roms/nes/2109/Al ... Racing.php

Wasn't there a droop snoot firenza in the Getaway? It was Matts fav game (only game?), but he decided to ditch the PS2 when he got a PS3.

And maybe a MK1 Renner 5?

EDIT: According to google images a viva too!

Anyone remember the PC game, "Interstate '76" and its sequel, "Interstate '82"? They featured a fair amount of tat, including the Volvo 245 GL :)

Ah The Getaway Black Monday, that game has loads of shite in it. From the top of my head I can think of:

Vauxhall Viva

Citroen BX

Vauxhall Cavalier MKII and MKIII

Rover Metro

Vauxhall Nova

Renault 19

Vauxhall Carlton

Renault 5

Rover 216 (R8)

And the Droopsnoot, which is a hidden car down some weird little roads..

Most of the stuff in the first Getaway game is now shite or at least borderline, it was released 8 years ago now.

I was pretty good at "The Getaway", as the roads in the game were generally the same as the real life ones, which I was driving on for a living around the time I played the game ;)

Hard Drivin' is another fun game that spring to mind. Never actually had it but played it a few times as a kid and always loved it, was quite an addictive game. I downloaded it on my PC a few years back but for some reason I didnt keep it long.

I also had 'Lombard Rally' on my Atari ST, similar to Hard Drivin' if you think about it, featured a C-reg Sierra (from the inside at least) and you could just make out the plate if you crashed into something as it flew off.

Lombard%20RAC%20Rally_4.png

I had a few goes on "The Getaway" on a mates Playstation 2. I never had a Playstation 2 so never had a proper go of the game. It was pretty good, sort of like a UK-based Grand Theft Auto.

I could never get past the loop-the-loop, no matter how hard I tried, so I quickly became bored of the game. "Turbo Outrun", "Chase H.Q.", and the original version of "Test Drive" on the Speccy +3 were good fun, though :)

Not a lot of older games featured real cars, before the days of Gran Turismo anything more than half a dozen was very unusual. How about Max Power Racing?

Rigs of Rods.

Not a game, but a simulation, and a frighteningly accurate one. It's based around a physics engine so all the weights, reactions, forces etc should be true to life and stresses involved when you hit something are physically "perfect".

Loads of models available for it - originally it started as a truck sim (hence the Rigs bit - the Rods are the bits they're built from) so lots of tractor units and rigids, loads of buses too, and there's thousands of user-created cars, vans, trucks, planes, boats..... seriously, it's a full on geek fest. If you get stuck in your DAF 3300 whilst towing a 40ft tanker, you press "R" and you jump into the rescue truck, drive up, use the anchor points to lock the winch on and pull it back out. There's cranes for the bigger spills.

Highlights must include loading a Renault Trafic into the back of a cargo plane, taking off and then opening the cargo doors to drop the van onto someone's house.

I've heard of this game, I think it was mentioned in Charlie Brookers Gameswipe or something like that, looks interesting.

I seem to remember there being some sort of European Learner Drivers type simulator of a similar nature.

It's surprisingly addictive. It has loads of cargo and stuff too, so you can just pretend you're a Biffa driver going out picking up ampirolls all day and dropping them in the sea.

Needs a fairly beefy PC to get decent framerates though.

Loadsa new shite in Euro Truck Sim.

Gran Turismo has a whole host of shite... possibly more shite than classics. I'm currently smoking around in a Volvo 240, it haven't dared to take it out on the track yet but its there in my garage, but have so far been impressed by the shite levels of the game.

I've asked Santa for the new GT5 for Christmas, I've been a good boy this year so I'm quite hopeful that I'll get it.

I remember playing Hard Drivin' as an arcade machine back in the day. It always felt a bit odd, but I could never work out why. Some years later, I would spend a good chunk of my wages and grant on Chase HQ, in Aberdeen Uni's union. I worked out scientifically (via sampling Guinness and Brannigans crisps) that the Mini was the best bet. 'Cos a pink Caddy doesn't corner very well.

I love using the shite in GT4, I'll turbo any old tat: Primera 2.0GT, Volvo 240 and Panda are all turbo'd and regularly thrashed round the 'Ring. On economy tyres for the ultimate shite experience.

The one I played to death as a kid, was the game of Paul McCartney's execrable film 'Give My Regards To Broad Street'. Sadly, I can't find screenshots for it, and both of my Speccy's are broke, so no highly informative pic, folks. Basically, you get to fly round London, in a V8'd Pop, trying to catch people at tube stations. It's highly realistic - Elephant and Castle to The Angel, in about 5 minutes, sure. What? It can't really be done? Even in a V8 Pop? I'm distraught...

Its good fun, they've definitely improved it over the previous ones. I like the way they have kept a number of cars from GT4 on allowing some shite to sneak its way through.

No, thats a full size '02 - '05 Range Rover.

On chav wheels.

Had that sort of feeling, hence the question mark. :D

Thanks for the correct description.

I assumed it was infact a helium balloon due to the lack of axles and the way it got of the ground at silly slow speeds.

I seem to remember there was an AMC Pacer in Driver 2, also plenty of Yankshite, VW Campers and a very rusty white Mini hidden underground.
