What’s that car in the back row between the Rancho and Nissan van, at first I thought Volvo Amazon but I’m not sure….

Looks like a Peugeot 404 or a BMC Farina. I would say the former because of the rear lamps and rear wheel arch.

Very late (J or possibly K registered) Morris Oxford VI in El Paso beige

I second this. I think the angle of the sun is making it look more exotic and rounded than it actually is....

The Escort UAT 579H (1098cc, first reg Feb 1970) still comes up on DVLA but tax expired June 1984 as do both Renault 12s, the saloon  XUT 243J (1289cc, first reg March 1971) tax expired Dec 1982 and the estate MBU 946L (1289cc, first reg May 1973) tax expired Nov 1983 but I expect long since scrapped although they might appear as Ebay barn finds.  No sign of the Morris (XHX 423D?) a London reg.

We need an explanation on those flood lights.  Imaging being in the offices alongside them when switched on. 💡

No idea what they are for. The only thing I can think of is that they were used to illuminate the Tyne when boats were being unloaded.

Some are still there, although the building behind St Mary's has gone.

Nothing in the next street along to the left.  Maybe to light up the Tyne Bridge? Moving down Lombard Street slightly

Edited to add: there are also floodlights on the other side

May be an image of 6 people and outdoors

That image is just superb, I’d imagine a comparable one today would look far from appealing.

Is that a 104 behind the bus , what's the red pickup?

Correct? or not? make up your own mind... High Street, Gateshead

Still a Tesco on the corner (just out of view). But in a new building, part of Northumbria University, the original couldn't have been more than 50 years old when it was demolished.

A bit further back.
