L plates on a 250 (or is it a 350 ?) must date this image as pre 1983.

250, single front disc. The very bike that was credited with the changing of the 250cc learner laws in the UK. Mainly as the government didn’t like learners having a bike that could easily crack the ton)

looking at the tank and the full leg cast, matey has had ‘a bit of an off’ recently

To me it looks like its got a twin disc set up on it.

I missed out on riding 250's at seventeen by a couple of years probably for the best. Although I would have wanted a DT or XL250 as my weapon of choice.

You are right, twin discs, I must remember to look properly at things 😂

After my 125’s I managed to just pass my test in time to ride whatever I wanted,  I’m glad I did, the hoops to jump through for learner riders seem to have gotten  longer and longer since then.

That’s in worst state than that HiLux that Top Gear tried to destroy. The two guys look like they’re holding the doors in place.

I took my test on my mates RD250E, if I’d failed I’d have had to buy a 125 for any retest.  Never did get my heap of an early RD250 back on the road, sold it to a workmate for £70 a few years later when I needed to get a van for work.  Got riding again in 93\4 ish.

You don't bother these days as bikes are exempt from all traffic laws.

@martc: The ship is the SS Rotterdam, launched in 1958.  It still exists afloat as a  hotel in the Netherlands.

Any idea what the American car is?

I think I’m seeing (L-R)

Red Mini

Mystery American car

Opel Kadette

Opel Rekord

VW Beetle.
