Tragically modified Volkswagen Phaeton Coupe Bentley Continental GT.  I don’t know where to begin…

There’s the ugly aftermarket bumper and the paint isn’t even close to matching the body colour.  Plus stone chips galore, the front valance is cracked, and the headlamp washer covers are unpainted.  Don’t even get me started on those hideous wheels or the chintzy cheese grater grille.

Why do people do this?

Oh they're being used regularly up here in the rust belt as well. The LLV-to-Vito ratio is still very much in the LLV's favour. Rural postal service is using fairly modern RHD Jeeps. Couriers are pretty much all using Ram badged Peugeot Boxers, Transhits or Sprinters instead of Chevy Expresses and Ford Econolines.

Vito here replaced an aging Jeep. It's about 2 years old and the dash is a cacophony of red and orange lights, spends a significant amount of time being repaired and the drivers's door is already starting to fall off. It opens with a clunk as the latch slides off the strike plate.

They still keep the Grumman around for when the Vito is broken. That gurgles down the street on 3 cylinders, stinking of unburned fuel and mild electrical problems.

There is a phenomenon in America known as “Big Altima Energy.”

What is Big Altima Energy, you ask?  It is the aura typically given by Nissan Altima drivers who typically inhabit the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum, often drive aggressively, are usually uninsured, operate their cars in various states of disrepair, and have little regard for other motorists.

Lately, it seems the stench of B.A.E. has spread to taint the reputation of all Nissans in general.

This Altima I spotted is fairly typical of the breed.  Note the badly repaired front wing and the smashed rear bumper and tail light.  Assuming this car isn’t stolen (always a possibility with Nissan Altimas) the owner has probably been driving it like this for years.

Chrysler 300 Rhino-Liner Edition.  This stuff is used to protect the cargo area of pickup trucks so why not use it to protect the whole car?
