Anyone got any cars going cheap?

Right. I've been facebooked by a mate, he's just moved back to the country from Canada, staying for a few months so needs transport.

He is absolutely, one hundred percent disinterested in cars. He wants it to protect him from weather, move under it's own power, and have some seats and things. Has about £1000 to spend. Small is better than huge but that's the only decision he'll make for me.

I'd prefer to recommend him something "known", in terms of buying it from a friend rather than out of Autotrader or off tBay, so I thought I'd ask here first. Anyone got anything up for grabs in that price band, suitable for a non-petrolhead?

I can recommend the golf :) Solid sensible car. Will be easy to shift on if he decides to. My brother has spent a fair few £££ on it. Had it for about 8 years and only selling due to getting Father in Laws golf.

Cool, I've passed them on thanks :) Golf is looking good too, he did say he can go a bit higher for a car that won't be hassle - as he's thinking of going travelling again at some point, ease of resale is a good plus point.

Cheers :D

Cheap is relative... if I'm looking for £2000's worth of car, £1000 is cheap :D

'03 Pug 406 HDi 110? Managed to be an insurance write off without cracking the paint.... nothing wrong with it. 147k on the clock, slightly shabby bonnet (rust along edge), had cambelt done at 130k, will have new clutch before sale.

Drives nicer than the Jag.

It'll be under the grand.

Passat TDi? If he knows naff all about cars it'll be ideal but I suppose it depends whether you want to remain friends with him or not. If you don't he can have mine for under a grand.

There's a 406 1.8 parked right outside my front door. We're hoping someone will buy it as it's been sitting there for ages taking up 2 parking spaces. It's up for 900 but bet he would take less

I'll show him a picture of a 406 and see if he thinks they're too big, cheers :)

PeterC was selling that ridiculously clean K reg 320i for about 400 quid last month. They're a superb budget banger and they still drive like a proper car.
