Vauxhall Signum V6 Dizz Shit or Shite?

Rumour has reached me that a very big boss at work's car is up for renewal.

It looks exactly the same as this:

!!sEvZMg!20~$(KGrHqYH-DIEvKLWzHeYBL1uhfL81!~~_12.JPG

same colour and spec, 115k miles.

As "valued"(ahem) staff members we get first dibs on company vehicles, but to be honest, in 10 years, there's been very little to raise any interest.

However, I've always preferred these to the Vectra, looks wise, and I would imagine they tramp on a bit with this sized donkey up front.

Best part is, they'll be looking at about £4000, where the fleabay one is £5250.

What's the crack? Are they any good? Bear in mind I'd be moving from the Volvo T4, so whilst I'm not expecting it to be as fast 0-60, but I can't be dealing with it if it's a slug.

Plan is I'll buy it, then leave!!

Any info appreciated. Ta.

Hmm, going on recent form from Vauxhall products, expect major open-wallet surgery to take place at some point soon....

It's got FSH apparently, but I agree, they don't seem to be doing any favours price-wise.

Apparently they've had "independent valuers" in, and that's 10% less than what they are expecting to get at auction. £4400? Do me a favour!!!

The more I think about it, the more I'm considering bidding £3500, and seeing what happens. I'm not paying over the odds just because of the company. It's all done by anonymous bids y'see, you email/send your bid in by a certain date - in this case 30/11/10, and the highest wins (apparently, there was some accusations of skullduggery a while ago)..

Isn't the Isuzu 3.0 V6 diesel a bit failtech?

Posted

Shite. It's a FWD Vauxhall, and as eny fule no, they is shite.

We have a saying for cars like the Signum in the trade but I cant possibly utter it on here!

If it were me I would buy something else (anything really)

After all its a Vectra with a fat arse and a monumental sales flop! when you come to get rid you will struggle to get a buyer!

Run Away...........

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I LIKE VECTRAS! and seeing the Signum is a shite version of the Vectra I LIKE SIGNUMS, TOO.

On the subject of pretend Vectras, I saw a Mercedes estate today that looked just like a Vectra from the back. How the mighty have fallen.

I think we're all adreed they're either shit or shite; Mr Tim seems to be the only one who actually likes them....

I send my bid in the internal mail @ £2600 with a note saying "Having consulted with an expert in the trade, I am willing to pay £2600, not the inflated guide price mentioned above. This offer is approximately "trade" value, and as such will be all one would get in the real world. Please let me know if my bid is acceptable".

Lets see what happens eh?

Dunno what will happen with the car, but I suspect your place in the "at risk of redundancy" league tables has jumped up a notch.

Posted

I'd love one of these, at £2600 you'll have a bit left over for a trolley jack and a multimeter.

I'm already in the play-off places in the Championship (to use a football analogy)

Heh, just make sure you keep a few grand spare for when everything goes wrong.

EGR valve and DPF are my 'sure thing' bets, but you might get a few weeks out of it first.

I'd buy it just to own a Vauxhall with a name that doesn't end in the letter "A",

The V6 Dieseasel is Isuzu sourced. Usually used in a Minibus and a light truck apparently! Caution advised ref Dealer servicing, as it's a 6 pot and "over 2 litres" they are known to fleece you with extras..... The engine will probably be the best bit, check cam belt history. If it fails it's curtains. Otherwise not bad, but the air filter is a faff. The ECU is bolted on top of it. The rest of the car will let you down. Rear suspension arm bushes go adrift, ALL road springs are prone to breaking, steering racks leak, wheel bearings commit suicide, rear tyres wear with castellations on the inner edges, making you think you have fucked wheel bearings (Like a Freeloader) then you DO replace the tyres, the noise goes away, and then you discover you DO have fucked rear wheel bearings..... Panel fit is shit. Paint kwality is shit. Interior plastics and fabrics are shit. Driving position is TOO adjustable with all the wee levers on the seats, and is therefore shit. Oh, and the oil filter is rarely carried in stock at most places. Have fun. Get an account at your nearest motor factors. You will need it. Ah. Rear calipers seize up, and you end up ripping the piston boots doing the wind-back for replacing pads, and front calipers creak, and give imbalance in the braking. Also seizing stainless pistons in aluminium calipers. Overall, they're shit.

By the way, I work at a Vauxhall dealer, and we all rate these lower than a Calibra. I know of two on our books. Neither have the V6 dizzle in. The only V6 Dizzle we know of belongs to a mate of mine..... his is the estate. In black. We call him "The undertaker" just because we can.

As previously mentioned. Run away. Now. Fast. Hide.

:shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock:

It's lucky I'm probably not going to get then.....I should hear tomorrow, bid sent yesterday, closing date 30/11/10, but with any luck, they'll dismiss my offer as insufficient, and tell me to go away.

Fingers crossed.

I'm reading between the lines there of what AR says, and I reckon that lot doesnt sound too bad! I cant see anything catastrophic in there, I could well imagine something comin up like 'cylinder heads pop without warning after 70k and replacements are not available, if yours can be salvaged then great, but you'll need a gasket kit which is £470 and is a dealer part only. We have done one of these and the final bill was £2800'

If the oddball engine is a tough old thing and unlikely to give up completely on you, then the rest of it is just a vectra innit, how awful can they be? It'll be fine.

it is just a vectra innit, how awful can they be? It'll be an unreliable, badly built, expensive to fix festering turd.

EFA.

Did they do a Signum estate?! I don't think I've ever seen one...

Although if I did I would probably just think it was a Vectra and ignore it.

Did the timing chains on my mates 2.2 signum - the balancer shaft chains had jumped a couple of teeth and the engine vibrated like an old spin dryer.

To be fair, my mate had'nt changed the oil for 80k (no that's not a misprint), he reasoned that as it was leaking so much oil, he was always topping it up, that it was as good as a change.

Who says Vauxhalls are'nt tough?

They ONLY did an estate. A sort of stretched Vectra estate that only seats 4 but has "lifestyle" overtones.

Marketing WANK!

I thought it was a variant of the hatchback Vectra, but more Austin Maestro like in design and appearance.

First time I saw one, I thought it was a greedy Astra. Ain't seen one in ages, though.

Similarly, the mad old bugger that lives near me has just got a V6 pez Vel Satis for peanuts.
