I'm now a 2CV owner

After many years of thinking about it and a few weeks of avid research I'm now the proud owner of this:

49,700 miles, 3 previous owners, full Citroen and specialist service history. On the original chassis but fully Waxoyled from new.

It needs a new foglamps (already got one on the shelf) and there's a leak in the silencer but apart from that it's top notch. I've only done a handful of miles in it so far but in terms of smiles-per-mile it has the Landy beaten hands-down :D !

I'm sure dollywobber will have a few things to say about it once he's back online again, It's the spit of his one.

Feeling much want and LuRVe for these ( sorry  ) , A friends just got a Dyane , easy to fix , great on fuel , what more is required

I have never owned one and I think they're beautiful! I'm jealous but I can never imagine being able to afford one now!

Well done that looks lovely. Rare to see the original rubber floor mat in such good condition. That has obviously been really well looked after. I miss my 2CV, and would love another one.

Mine was only £350 but it was very rusty!

Enjoy! :D

+1 Shame that it got rear ended, and that had potential for a good car. Thats the same colour as mine too, and its got the original rubber floor mat. I can see it's had a couple of new bits in the engine bay, you'll really enoy it. The only difference in the body is that mine has red headlamps and a plain grille, although I may add a chrome one next year.

That looks ace.

I'd love one as well but with the sort of money good ones fetch I can't see it happening.

Looks very clean & tidy, I hope it brings you much two-pot joy.

I don't know why, but I struggle to get my groove on for 2CV's, especially these late ones. I guess they are all a bit 'twee', if you know what I mean.

I'd love a Dyane though, a nicely done re-style. Or an Ami, or...

Try driving one. Then you'll see what they're all about :D

I have a growing affection for these and can see me owning one in the next couple of years. Thats a Bognor registered one too I think so has probably not been far in its life if its only over in Hampshire now (Unless one of the 3 previous owners was from Aberdeen and it just came back darn sarf by chance).

Looks nice.

Thanks for the kind words everyone- done a few more miles in it and the smiles haven't stopped yet....

That's the logical thing. Like Minis v. Metros, Series Landys v. Defenders and I'm sure much else the later 'replacement' is in every measurable way a better car but just doesn't have the same following.

Yep- new alternator, coil, discs/pads, heater trunks (toasty warm inside yesterday evening!) and a few other bits and bobs.

Definitly a 'local boy'- the first owner lived in Portsmouth (and had it serviced at a now-defunct PSA-Talbot dealership), the second lived just down the road from me, the previous one lived near Southampton so it's never really been away from the Solent area.

Oooh nice! Looks far tidier than mine and much closer to original spec. Amazing that it's on the original chassis - rare for a late one.

I'd like to drive a low mileage one again. Mine's just clocked up 180,000 miles, so they do carry on if looked after. Hope you've got a grease gun for those kingpins.

Worth joining the club at www.2cvgb.co.uk as there's loads of support, and a huge number of social events. If you can risk it, there'll be lots of scenic drives in January. Highest pub in Wales, England and Scotland in three different events.

I think it's the two tone paint job that does the same thing for me, I hate it and would make it monotone immediately.

It's a shame the 'rectangle headlight' 2CVs of the late 1970s didn't last very long, I think they look a lot better than the 'cuddly' round headlight ones.

Looks a great 2CV though Jozza! Still a vehicle I would love to own, even though only projects are in my price range now.

Daft thing is Leonard, I always hated the super-cute Dolly things until I got one. Mind you, you'll struggle to find a Dolly sticker on mine...

The rectangular headlamp ones are super-cool. Some of them had brown vinyl seats too for super-win.

That is a good point ands something I've not thought about myself. The two tone doesnt help them at all - they look different enough as it is, the two-tone can make them look a bit tacky and as if they're trying extra hard to stand out.

Nice car though..

Aahh, you see it's the slight naffness of the two-tone paint and the stainless steel wheel trims that I quite like about the Dolly (not that I knew it was a Dolly before I went to see it- the seller just said it was a Special). It's the same reason I'll always had a fondness for 80s Land Rovers in County spec with the go-faster stripes and Rostyle wheels. There's something amusing about taking a really basic and functional vehicle like a 2CV or a Landy and trying to make it into a fashion accessory on a budget of about a tenner :) .

I dunno, I thought the two tone grey 'Charleston' ones where pretty classy looking. Saw a model type lady getting out of one in paris once.. maybe that swayed my opinion..

But I do like the oblong headlight ones. And the 'Spot' Special edition.

I like that 2CV, very nice. I would like to own a Mehari sometime in the future...

One of my childhood holiday memories is Dad passing a white/green 2CV with red and white striped roof, on the motorway. I noticed that the very dented bonnet was flapping about, so I turned round to stare, and it was tied on with rope. I also remember the 2 scruffy long haired occupants flicking Vs at me too......
