Apparently it's the thirtieth anniversary of the launch of the Metro - or something. Coventry Transport Museum promised 'up to' thirty of the beasts on display so, obviously, I just had to saunter down. Well, let me tell you, they undersold the spectacle; I counted at least thirty-four! You'll be relieved to hear I didn't photograph them all, at least not individually...

WHY NOT?????

Some lovely Mk1's there.

The V plate one is a pre launch prototype. There were a few that got bandied about and road tested, then sol on through the dealer network!

An old giffer near me has one in Cinnabar Red.Looks bloody mint. He alternates between that and a Triumph 1300

Love em, but the later 100 pretenders I am not so taken with.

After a beer fueled E-bay moment, I ended up with a metro vanden plas 500. It was a special edition in black with tan leather. I think a rodent had been busy inside as the interior was falling apart. Was great fun to drive,(when the carb wasnt playing up) wasnt the same after a haulage driver "didnt see me" on a roundabout.

Swapped for a rover 100 dizzla with twice the economy, but also as I found out, twice the rust

Wow, I didnt know about this, I might have come down for a butchers had I known it was on. The only Metro I've driven was an old giffers Silver A-reg 'City' when I worked at a garage. The old blokes son (Oldish bloke himself) drove a Astra GTE with Black primered arches.

What a car the Metro was, certainly very interesting to drive, took a bit of getting used to. It was put up for sale about a month later and I was seriously tempted to buy it, but the Sterling was taking money out of pockets plus house rent, food etc... I saw a few months later driven by a younger bloke. Got some pics somewhere.

Its an interesting but dull fact that the 500VDP had an exhaust exiting on the opposite side to every other metro eVah due to an extra back box to reduce the noise.
