Should I go knocking doors?

Ladles and Jellyspoons,

As some of you will be aware I'm suffering Forced Cavalier Withdrawal Symptoms following my own '89 SRi's MOT failure. I was doing some snooping, as one does, and discovered this in a driveway about 20 miles away...

Last taxed 2007, door bottoms are crusty, and it's guaranteed to have no sills, no boot floor and no bulkhead. Much like mine, but rustier I expect. It's a 2.0SRi saloon in a not hugely endearing shade and it isn't on a SORN, but I've looked at GLis, CDis and even GSis but I keep getting drawn back to 8v 130s...

So... should I go a-knocking to see if this one's available?

Why not , dress decently so you dont look like a pikey , leave a home phone number rather than a mobile if they arnt sure and see what happens

Survey the land to see if they are a bit on the pikey side first...

If they are, shiny shoes and smart appearance might make them pull a price out of the air

Or you could always knock on the door offering to swap it for some lucky heather

If it is rotten, and you already have a roten Cavalier then I don't see the point?

Am I missing something?

Oh yeah..... This is AUTOSHITE :D

There's a black SRi on Pistonheads for 250 quid. They're unbelievably cheap at the moment, mk2 SRi's are get pricey now. Surprised the Astra GTE's aren't following suit, there's always a few white standard GTE's on ebay for a few hundred.

I keep thinking the same about this - its been sat there a LONG time now and the wheels are flat.

knock the door, if it were anything i was interested in i would be there like a shot.

Later Calibra were galvanised (or at least the main body was), I ask about that, they're good cars!

Worst they can do is say no I suppose..?

And is it save a Vauxhall week on AS? I pick up my snathced from the jaws of death Vectra estate later...

( expect tales of joy / woe later )

One can never have too many rotten Cavaliers... this could be another like mine in fairness, it might be rotten in new and unusual places!

I'll take a run over during the week then... ! I wouldn't have looked twice if it had been a facelift Mk3, but I reckon it could be saveable. They'll never be worth as much as Mk2s but heyho, each to their own...

but it might be rust free underneath.

i picked an imp sport up years ago and the bottom of the doors were shagged, but the sills and floor were really good.

it had been standing in a barn for about 10 years.

I prefer the Mk3 to the Mk2, they seem better built. The Mk2s are a good laugh (in SRi or Calibre form at least) but feel more plasticy and sort of breakable inside. The Mk3 also handles better and just has that certain something about them.

I can see SRis and GSis fetching half decent money in years to come. Later facelift SRis aren't too shabby but still prefer the earlier ones like your's.

Those early grilles give me the raging horn, the later cars look nice, but there's something about that front end.

VX got it spot-on with these, I've never seen one even remotely improved by anything bolted/stuck/screwed/wedged onto it. Really good looking car straight from the dealer. Getting rare due to disposability, plenty of them were just thrown away when they failed an MoT. Add the number of SRI/GSI models that were written off for locks/glass/column damage.... can't remember the last one I saw on the road! Especially pre-facelift.

That Calibra is a nice colour too, is it one of the SE models? A mate had an SE9 which was red with BBS wheels, black leather, and the 2.5 V6.

I agree with that but a K&N and a decent full system does work wonders and brings the exhaust note out a treat.

Fair point - I was more thinking of nasty styling bits that suddenly got stuck to everything, around the early 90s when they were so popular.

Even Irmscher couldn't make anything that suited it. I actually prefer the look of the SRI to the GSI2000.
