Just bought a Nissan

Hi guys,

Haven't been around much as I have moved and the numpties who provide my broadband service are taking their time getting me set up @ the new address. :? . The sale of my former flat has allowed me to buy a half decent car.

This morning I traded in my shite Ford Escort 1.8D L saloon for a less shite metallic blue 53 reg Nissan Almera 2.2d (dCi?) SXE with 134 bhp. Not autoshite per se but may be classed as such in say, 2018? SXE is top of the range with sat nav & climate control so it's certainly not an autoshite spec.

Will post some pics in the near future.

It's certainly a difference from 60 bhp (or more like 45-50 bhp given its age) to 134 bhp!

Is that not the same Renault Dizzler engine that likes to eat itself?

In which case its Russian Roulette Shitetastic! And when it goes bang at the side of a motorway (be sure to film it on your camera phone) should be replaced with a nice Isuzu Diesel that sounds like a tractor.

There's 2 2.2 dizzlers for that, a Di and a dCi, pushing 124 and 138 horses respectively. The engine codes and outputs are different from similarly-engined Renners of that era, so I dunno whether is a Frog-donkey or not.

I was looking for runaway diesel footage on Youtube a few days ago, but there's surprisingly little considering what a spectacle it is.

Looks like it will be an interesting ownership experience then? Mine is the dCi engine, which I assume is indeed the Renault engine.

Mk1 almieras are definite 90s autoshite. I had a 1.4from.new horrible guess thing the fast uns r decent def future shite.

I think u should spend 300 on an allegro as well. U need a fleet of kit!

I reckon the Mk2 Almera looks a bit Allegro-esque. 2.2 appears to be a Nissan engine so should be alright. Futureshite!

It's not like you get a good deal even with the Nissan-engined versions of those Almeras - the timing chains seem to have been borrowed from Vauxhall (40k replacement intervals) and the gearboxes from VW (50k replacement intervals).

An excellent choice, still futureshite but the Renault engine (yes true, I believe it was lifted from the Espace of the same era  ) and depressing interior should hasten its descent to full shite status :) However the petrol versions are more robust than Mr H suggests; timing chains have been known to hand in their dinner plates at about the 90k mark and throttle bodies sometimes curl up and die, but neither are inevitable and nothing much else goes wrong.

Mrs A has a petrol version of Sunderland's finest from a year later; should I tell her that her pride and joy has been voted solid gold (or silica bronze if you are going to be pedantic) futureshite, or stay married  To be fair, they are quite well specced, even the SE has RCL with keyless entry, cd, climate control and a computer that can be operated from the steering wheel 8)
