trigger Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Whilst at a car show today I nearly creamed myself when a 1974 Audi 80 in proper autoshite spec came in. I got chatting to the lady owner, It was her fathers until 1988 and she has used it since, She was quite eccentric and not the type I expected to be driving about about in this gem!. She has decided to sell it on now, It's up for overs over £500, Has tax until the end of the month and mot until May 2011 and has covered 107000 miles. Her mechanic was also there (the guy in the photos) and i was chatting to him, He said it's very tatty to look at but mechanically sound and drives well, She was going to scrap it last year but he's talked her into selling it. I have her address which is in Brightlingsea, Essex as she doesn't like people phoning her up, You'll have to write to her on a postcard and she'll contact you. I supect that some young lad will end up rat looking it but I want to give it half a chance first.
warren t claim Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 I love that! Pity some scenester is going to fucking destroy it within an hour of purchase.
pogweasel Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 OMGZ that is super-hot! Shame it's another bloody peg-legger. I would be reaching for the credit card otherwise.
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Just chuck a nice 1.9 carb 5 pot and manual 'box in there.
trigger Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 The bodywork was very ropey, Big rust blisters and stuff, The only panel that's ever seen paint is the front wing which has cracked, The interior didn't look to bad but the headlining might have been on the way out at the back and the only welding shes had done was around the front, It's just had a new radiator fitted as well. I told her that i suspect some young lad will scene it up which she was disappointed about but said that it was up to them what they do, The mechanic agreed and said that was what he think will happen to it as well.
boobydoo Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Shame she put those god-awful mirrors on it. Thats thirty lashes and a ban on ever owning anything over 20 years old. In my opinion.
Station Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 That hits 'the spot'. The advert is incredible! Is the woman in the photo? It's interesting to see Audi still uses the same engine/radiator/reservoir layout today.
trigger Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 Right back at ya Vek!. Yes Station that is her is the photo, She's quite posh to speak to so i was really suprised to she her driving the car!.
gtd2000 Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Might be running a bit rich judging by the blackened rear N/S?
barrett Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Yogurt, spilt. I do hope mr. McTorsten gets his grubby mits on this - offer her £600, it'd still be a bargz! Can't be more than single figures of these still running now, shirley?
steve austin Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Probably best that a young un gets hold of this old girl, heres to you Mrs Robinson...........................the lads love these cars now. I have only seen two MK2 Capri's in my town and both are driven and cared for by young lads, good on em!
dollywobbler Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Might be running a bit rich judging by the blackened rear N/S? Was going to say - how good is this mechanic chap?! Or is it actually a diesel? Looks great for the money though - good luck with the save Torsten!
In The Pit Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I do think those old 80's are a nice looking car, however there seems to be no real interest in them (or any non Quattro Audis) hence the very low number of survivors. Practical Classics April 2008 said for the Audi 80S (1972-1978) there was 1 left on UK roads. Good call on the mechanic persuading her not to scrap it, lets hope it goes to an enthusiast who will look after it.
Espacetic Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I had 3 of these years ago, including a 1500 auto and I really rate them. Hope it finds a good home and doesn't get it's paint stripped off and a pineapple stuck on its roof.
Torsten2001 Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I am waiting for a call, best I can hope for really!
Guest Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 i bought it today chaps im afraid! went round and gave her a knock as she was only up the road, never even seen her in it before round town. dont worry there will be no stripped paint and pineapples! thanks trigger for your help, send me your email address and il pay pal you a drink!
trigger Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 Not a problem, I know Torsten was very keen on it but as long as you promise not to ratklook it then i'll let you off It's quite a special car and a real survivor so please look after it! What's your plans for it?.
Guest Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 ratlook it? its that already! ive had a red 72 4 door that i sold to the bus barn boys and a silver 75 gl 4 door but had to part with them when i really didnt want to. il have to see what needs doing first really. the diaphram in the carb has split hence fumes up back panel and the auto box aint quite rite so plenty to do
trigger Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 It certainly has a good patina about it! I'm sure it will keep you busy though!, We was talking about it today saying how rare it must be now, and £500 is a bargain really.
In The Pit Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Glad its gone to a good home and someone on here, im sure we'd all love to see some more pictures and how did you get on with the eccentric owner?
Torsten2001 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 MASSIVELY disappointed it's not mine but very, very pleased it's gone to a good home as the bottom line is I just don't get on with Audis!
Guest Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 cheers guys and sorry to torsten.not sure if accentrics the word as she stood there telling me the whole history off the car only to include how SHE did the head gasket herself, SHE stripped the cracking bits of sealer and resealed to keep on top off it and how SHE had to drill through the wing to re drill the bonnet hinge main bolt in the inner wing! and she wasnt lying, the cars the proof! thats why she painted the osf wing darker green because the paint match in areosol was way off! im going to source some lowering springs so i can keep the originals just in case and im on the look out for some period wheels that set it off abit more than steels for now until i decide what to do with the body work etc. if any one wants to see what i do in the day have alook here http://www.coeskustoms.co.uk hasnt been updated for a while but you`ll get the idea
trigger Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 It will be nice to see some progress photos of this to see how you get on with it.
