At least it happened at home.

That reminds me of the day my dad lent me his old D reg Sierra Estate which i forgot all about until just now, I was driving home from work on day and the bloody gearlever snapped clean in half!, I ended of which a quick shift gearbox instead!.

A bit of weld soon changed it back into a long throw box again though.

LOLZ, had the exact same thing happen on my 325, first time I drove it, bastard thing!

The lever snapped of the type 9 in my 2 litre Crapi. Luckily, I was giving a mate a lift, and he managed to jam a long extension bar from a 1/2" drive socket set in it. A strange experience.

About 3 years ago my mate was driving one of these:

And the top of the steering column sheared off. Cue four and a bit tons of armoured Land Rover clean through a garden wall. The guys in the back thought they'd been hit by an RPG, and leapt out, guns drawn!

On my first 2CV, the cotter pin on the handbrake mechanism came out, so when I pulled the handbrake on, the lever came straight out of the dashboard...

The gearlever broke on my Anglia. I managed to force the stub into second, which got me to work and then home, and the following day grabbed one from a van in the scrappy (this was 1980). Took me about 20 minutes to get the lever out of the van, and more like 2 hours to make the repair to my car. For some reason the stub simply didn't want to come out...

Wasn't there something about the brake pedals falling off early BMW X5's?

EDIT: Yep: "BMW reported that as a precaution it was recalling 56,000 X5s. The X5 has a problem with the brake pedal shaft, which could result in a loose pedal and subsequent loss of braking."

Is that a Porsche/VW pedal? (Or BMW, going by the title).

Bimmer. New part is £85 from dealer  .

Can't go and rob one out a dead E46 or E39 at the breakers as its the only car in the house at the moment. My van is at work as I'm still on hols and the Sierra is SORN'd. However I can easily get a peasant shuttle to BMW... :?

SRSLY considering having some kind of spare functioning shite on hand....

The grubscrew holding 3rd and 4th gear selector fork came undone on my mini once. This caused me to drive the five miles home in 2nd,after midnight on a Friday night.Saturday afternoon (after work) was spent removing engine & 'box, gearbox off, lashings of thread-lock on the grubscrew then reassembling all.Great.

I got a replacement off eBay for about a tenner, but I guess you don't want to wait that long?
