I ordered a new badge for the BMW the day after I bought it. It arrived today, a bit late but hey, it ain’t going anywhere!

it’s the little things that improve a car. The paints not brilliant underneath but again, meh.

why do I do it?

Fair play to you, the work you’re doing to this will hopefully see it destined for a better future than before you bought the car

Hurray! A part turned up today!

gasket for the Carlton’s manifold downpipe!

unfortunately one of the helicoils has come through while tightening up, which sucks. If it blows after this, I’m pulling the manifold back off.

Also, superb has been collected! What a beautiful woftomatic thing!

Excellent, petrol blue is the best colour for these and I’m guessing it’s Elegance spec?

Yes I think it is elegance spec. I’ve no idea on what the trim levels are on these so if you have the knowledge, I’m all ears!

carlton doesn’t blow, so that’s officially going back on the road! I had to charge the lightning cube up first. These Carlton’s don’t like sitting and the clock runs the battery down.

in other news, I finally tracked down a correct front splitter for it!

looks much better now

Skoda is dirty, typical forecourt standard really. So it’ll need a full “sutty clean”. Found this weedy tow rope in the boot. That’s going straight in the bin 😅

The wheels suggest Elegance, the spec above my SE Business edition. Top spec was Laurent & Klement but that had badges on the front wings.
I had a choice of mine or a grey Elegance when buying and went for mine simply because it was newer, with lower mileage at the time.

I think the only real difference was electric seats and tailgate, plus different wheels. I really rate these cars and turned over 129k in mine yesterday. Hope it does you well.

Delighted the Carlton is sorted, I remember my Dad having trouble with that front trim on his A reg estate. The transport dept got fed up with it and drilled it and bolted it on all the way round with brass nuts and bolts😆

I think it’s Lava blue?

Here’s the list of codes. I’ll do some digging as I want to buy a touch up stick

I believe petrol blue and lava blue are the same colour. It was called petrol blue here and lava on the continent, before being just called lava. Just what I’ve read anyway.

Certainly, when I was looking, back in 2017, this blue was called petrol by the main dealers.

Slight update.

radiator still not arrived for the BMW. but I have extracted 3/4 of the tanks diesel, and seeing as I’m now officially BROKE it’s a good idea to fuel the Schhhkoda up.

while I’m at it, I’ll fit the fuel filter I bought for it. Whoever serviced this last (many moons ago) did the right thing and fitted a WIX to it!

I didn’t though, I fitted whatever came from General Traffic.

GREAT NEWS FOLKS! The new radiator has arrived!

look at that! Ok it’s taken a little over a week to arrive but it’s disappointing that no motor factors or radiator specialists can get these.

it’s now fitted, and full of cooling juice. For sale thread coming imminently.

Been quiet in here recently. We went on holiday to Lanzerote and had a really good time. A much needed break for the whole family. Feeling a little refreshed now.

updates as follows.

Discovery - getting moved to an insurance assessor to be inspected. I’m hoping I can buy it back, mainly for sentimental reasons. I still have my light bar, Cb and some decent parts on that, let alone my rebuilt(ish) td5 engine. I always like to see off the cars that have saved us.

BMW - now on eBay, potentially got a viewing on Sunday. But I’ve had 5 or 6 messages from folk wanting to trade wheels. Fuck off.

skoda - is now named Stephan (pronounced sccchhhh-tep-han) in Czech. It’s great. Hasn’t broken. Still got loads of fuel on board. Has an umbrella in the rear door and a torch in the boot!!! Check this out!

it’s the simple things that impress me!

Had a keen viewing on the bmw today. He’s been messaging me a lot this week. He messaged me so many times his last message was to say “I’m not coming today m9 will have to rearrange”

oh.

It’s a good job I’d washed it again, cleaned the alloys, dressed the trims and cleaned the interior again. Oh well. I’ll park it back up then.

i fucking hate selling cars 🤦‍♂️

Something that was bugging me for ever was the drivers side wiper arm on the Carlton. Rust had started to peel the paint off and it was spreading along the arm.

cleaned up. I was only going to spray the thin arm section but when I masked the back end off, original paint peeled off. So I sprayed the lot.

i should really do the other side too.

The sccchhhhkoda has a bit of a knock coming from the left front, and no, it’s not a JW on a Sunday morning. lots of stuff online suggesting EVERY suspension component could be the culprit. Not helpful. It’s had new roll bar links, so I jacked it up and had a look.

these two pictures are looking up into the strut, at the top coil of the spring where it sits in the bottom of the top mount. How weird does the top of that spring sit on the bottom of the top mount? Almost like it’s no longer square and it’s gone oval, like the top coil is missing…. Any thoughts?

the top coil of the spring

The start of the spring may have broken off short enough that it just drops out rather than gets snagged up - check the remaining end of the spring for clues. If jaggy/pointy and/or it's well away from matching up with whatever sort of moulding is in the top mount for the spring end then I'd think Dr. Sutty has diagnosed correctly.

I stuck my finger in there good n proper and it didn’t feel too bad unless the break was pretty clean. I did the same with the bottom of the spring as that felt kinda rough too. Picture wasn’t very good though.

Looks clean enough to me but it's deffo not "gettin in teh groove" - if the bottom end is seated correctly then is the top mount properly located or is it the wrong spring?
