320touring Posted Saturday at 18:48 Author Posted Saturday at 18:48 Got this tub over to the unit today for a look over.. Starting at the front Hello lil turbo Did a fluid check, all present and dup to respective marks - coolant looks nice and clean too. Headlamps needed to see some polish Better Then onto the main bit - checking tyres, brakes and suspension. Left front first Tyre is good - as are all others . @sdkrc had treated it to a full set late last year (via @davehedgehog31's amazing ATS bargains finding..) All of the tread, none of the pronouncables Front spring and shock ok, Arb drop link looks ok Suspect the front end rattle is a balljoint Pads are about 1/2 worn Discs are pretty tired, so I decided to use the rattle gun to help me out. A T27 torx and some subtle buzz gun action saw the disc retaining screws removed, and copper slipped before getting put back in gently. I noticed that the steering rack boot seemed to be detached - seems to be ok at the rack end but just flopping about at the outer end. Lastly, the bleed nipples was opened and some fresh fluid drawn through - I was able to use the 1/4" ratchet on these, no ugga dugga needed. The drivers side was no different except no obvious issues with a rattling sound. Pads half worn, Disc Moribund - and retaining screws removed and greased Spring and shock fine ARB all good Rack boot loose at outer side Bleed nipples loosened and fresh fluid drawn through. The drivers headlamp was just as gubbed Bettererer Sparkeratrons were checked too A most good number at idle The rears were in decent nick, no issues re brake lines, dampers, springs or handbrake operation I took the opportunity to wire brush the drums and put some milkstone remover onto them. Only thing of concern at the rear was the back box mount being a little generous with it's description as 'fitted' High Jetter, The Moog, Dan302 and 10 others 12 1

Dan302 Posted Saturday at 19:58 Posted Saturday at 19:58 I tried polishing the headlights with one of those kits but I'm useless and probably made it worse! Is the daddy long legs still stuck in the headlight? Also it's great to see the old bus getting some love. I actually spent quite a bit on it including the clutch, engine mount, windscreen, couple of oil changes and some other bits and bobs. It was a great an car during my time with it.

The ghost of Daddy Longlegs still exists in the drivers headlamp. Became apparent as I polished it. I don't bother with kits - a rotary polisher and some light polish - these took 6 mins a side - 3 passes each. You can tell the car has been pretty looked after - it drives really straight! Dan302 1

320touring Posted Sunday at 21:56 Author Posted Sunday at 21:56 How did I do then? Firstly, some reflections: The 207 rides better than the Rover I prefer the HDI to the K series as it makes power sooner (but runs out of puff quickly) The best launches seemed to be at about 1250rpm and just go through the clutch - so it grips and goes. I was relatively consistent with times and max speed.. Absolute best was 18.398 at 74.57mph. Worst was 18.753 at 74.35mph. (Ignore the bolding - it's a quirk of the system deciding if you "won" or not) - all times on this sheet are for me. **BORING BIT ALERT** Much like Audi winning Le Mans by taking fewer pitstops, part of racing is MPGs🤣 The run through After my drag racing runs 14 miles (inc the return road after each run), 24.7mpg and 6mph. You spend a lot of time sitting idle before going fast... This is the drag racing + return leg only And overall for the whole trip (to/from + racing) That's 3 gallons for a full day out and drag racing. At £1.619/L, that's £22.08 in fuel, 13.4p/mile Popsicle, MrGTI6, captain_70s and 13 others 16

Supernaut Posted yesterday at 11:05 Posted yesterday at 11:05 You'd be good at bracket racing, I think it's called. I remember in the dim and distant past of about 2012 or so, back in Barry Boys days, we'd go to a big drag meet in Shakespeare County (because a couple of the admins had a proper 70s Dodge Challenger dragster) but there were folk who did bracket racing. They'd guess their time then go down the 1/4 mile. There was a guy in an Astra 1.6 auto who would guess 20 seconds, and do it in 20 seconds every time. Thus, he did very well. 320touring 1
320touring Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago What's that? It's payday and the hillclimb club have just opened entries for a hillclimb trackday on 12th July? Don't mind if I fuckin do🤣 Best get some brakes ordered up then... Dan302 1
