Shite weekend at Snetterton....Car Park pics 25/8/10.

This weekend was the annual 24-Hour 2CV bash at Snetterton....Aside from a couple of hours' worth of rain in the early morning (When I was sleeping soundly in my £30 Asda tent! :D ), the weather was kind, and I remembered to take my camera for once!

I'll start, if I may, with a few pics of the main event, to be followed (When I've had a little rest....During the week maybe) by pics of some sexy Shite from the support races, and of course stuff from the paddock/campsite/carparks....Plenty for the Citroen/2CV enthusiast, plus some other nice stuff....I hope you agree anyway :D

Here goes, with a few of the 2CV racers for now:

Team "Rent Boys"....The winning car.

Posted Image

Second placed entry "Tete Rouge 2"

Posted Image

Third went to "Team Stinky"

Fourth placed "Team Tete Rouge"

Posted Image

My tip for the top....Chosen because it looks just like an old pile of cack that I used to own.

Posted Image

The choice of my partner, Sam....Chosen merely upon the basis of it's colour....There were no pink or purple cars entered!

Posted Image

Posted Image

The "Gadget Racing" entry....Before and after it rolled in the night! The ingenuity of the 2CV racers is amazing....I'm pretty sure every car that started the race, crossed the line at the finish....Some of them only just, but they finished nonetheless!

And finally, a few "Action" shots....The camera is new to me, and i don't fully understand it yet, so I was really just fiddling....I don't think any of these pics are technically really very good, but they please me:

More pics of the other stuff I saw to follow soon.

Nice stuff. I was following the race on the 2CV racing club's site. First car home averaged 60.01mph over the 24 hours. Not bad for 602cc! They did about 730 laps.

Of the 26 starters, 26 did indeed finish. Very rare that one doesn't make it to the end! Must get to one of these races one year.

Third went to "Team Stinky"...

Ah, good to see that Stinky's still going strong. I managed that team for the final 24hr events at Mondello Park in '01 and '02.

Currently trying to persuade my mate Laurence to exhume the racing 2CV we built in '92 to have a crack at Snet next year... 8)

That orange Avenger is giving me a slight horn, as is the green Dolly with the racist no.plate. Looking foward to the car park pics, we all know that's where the real shite is found!

Heh heh....IIRC the Dolomite's driver was called Nigel, I don't think there are any unpleasant overtones there! :)

The car park pics will follow, probably tomorrow....Overall I was quite disappointed at the level of Shite there....The event wasn't as heavily populated by 2CVers as I thought (And remembered, from my 2CV days), and the resultant overspill of other unusual french stuff was absent, sadly. :(

Even the "Historic" Touring Car events were a slight disappointment....A look at the website, shows all manner of unusual stuff (Including a Toyota Corona), but again, most of that was missing....Maybe the fact that the racing was on a Saturday had summat to do with it, I dunno :?

Anyway, that's really sold it to you....Bet you can't wait for the pics now!

+1 for that Avenger.

On the shite front, there's a tasty looking blue Ami in the campsite behind the Jag (I assume they brought a tent - probably would have been on News At Ten if they'd tried towing a caravan  )

Better pic of the Ami (A two door estate???) to follow....I believe a couple of the 2CVers had trailer-tents, but no caravans this time....I have seen it done though!

...the Ami (A two door estate???)...

Nah, it'll be a more-door, unless it's a Service Vitree (van with windows) comme ci:

Good photos Baz. I’d like to get along to one of those historic touring car races one day, though like you I’d probably think it was a shame not see more variety.

We saw a shiny 2CV trundling down the A140 on Sunday PM, I’d guess it had been at Snetterton.

Nice pics, Tete Rouge/Tower are my local team and have had work done at Tower's.

Cheers.

I miss my 2CV :(

Me too....I used to buy myself one every so often, just to get my "fix"....They're too expensive for that nowadays! :(

Okay....Now the pics of stuff that I saw around the paddock/car park/campsite....As I said earlier, it wasn't quite the Shitefest that I'd been anticipating, but here goes anyway....

Not Shite at all, obviously, but the only Audi (Apart from the UR quattro of course) that I like and, in Spyder form, probably the only "exotic" that I'd consider buying in the event of a lottery win.

To follow, a few 2CVs as I like to see them....A bit tatty!

And now, a few tidier examples:

This one looked brilliant....Lowered, on those banded rims....Never found out whether it was standard or modified engine-wise though.

This one was so beautiful, it deserves two pictures....For me though, a car this nice can never be fun, and that's what the 2CV is all about for me.

And now, some vans:

Dyane "Limo"....Could this be the shortest stretch in history?

Ami 2-door estate/van with windows was very nice.

Rather amusing Multipla camper....Had a kitchen and everything!

Unmolested RS Cosworth....Lovely.

Included for selfish reasons....The number plate on this tidy MX-5 ends in "HRP", the same as mine....It gave me pleasure to think that this car may have been sold by "Norton Way Mazda" (Incidentally, the same dealer that serviced my Mazda 6 all through it's life) shortly after mine....I've noticed since however, that it's an import!

A very un-standard looking Morris 1000.

Dunno why, but I do love a Subaru Legacy....Always shied away from buying one though....Can't imagine that they're terribly good on fuel.

I think this looks great on it's rims....Think it may belong to a marshall, as I've seen it parked on the inside of Riches on a number of occasions now.

That's it....Nothing earth-shattering, but I hope you find something you like :D

I'm the same with Legacys. I really like them but I honestly can't think why.

Nice shots.

The 'stretch' Dyane is running on an Acadiane chassis, which is slightly longer. Belongs to one of the topper-most specialists who was probably on tinkering duty.

Ah, 2CV racing 8) I once went to a 2CV race at Cadwell park, in about 1990 I think. There was a pink 2CV there with black and silver number plates with 'STINKY' on them (I have a picture of it somewhere). Would it be the same team then :?::?:

That Multipla camper looks interesting. A bit of googling has brought up 'Wheelhome' - probably one of their conversions.

Five-stud hubs on a mk2? What's going on under there, then...? 8)
