Looking for a 1940s MG 👍

Can’t afford one 👎

But prices are falling 👍

But all the ones less than 150 miles from me are expensive and it’s too expensive to take a chance 👎

Why not buy an MX5 for the moment, and as it gains value and the MG loses it, they’ll cross over at some point 👍

But it’s in fucking Devon 👎

The bloke will drive it to Bristol, knocking a useful hour off my train trip and an hour back in the car 👍

But the only V5 he can find is an old one so I can’t tax it 👎

But he can tax it and then I’ll do the lost V5 form 👍

He can’t do it online because DVLA 👎

Perhaps he can do it at a post office 👍

But I won’t find out until 9:30 this morning as the queue in the post office is massive 👎

My train leaves at 9:41 😳

It’s taxed! 👍 And there’s a train 👍

Or is there 👎

I did First class to Edinburgh once and it was excellent. I almost forgot what I went to Edinburgh for. 🤣

I didn’t get coffee for the Bedford to London part, as it would have smelled of stale sweat, the same as everything else on that fucking train 👎

By comparison, the underground smelled like a spring meadow 👍

I think I’ve paid off the Nicaraguan national debt with it 👎

But there were almond croissants 👍

The car is a UK spec MX-5, less than 30,000 miles and has never had an advisory for rusty sills 😳

Nah - cut off the M4 and go x-country to Milton Keynes way, back doubles across to Bedford. Much better than the M25, could even be quicker?

Absolutely taking the scenic route back, Cirencester, Bicester, Buckingham, Milton Keynes 👍

I count Milton Keynes as scenic because it’s full of roundabouts and I’ll be in a car with 185x14 tyres 😀

Parkway is a fucking grim station 🤣🤣... But it does save trying to get into the centre of Brizzle.

Traffic is always diabolical around there so I'm sure he'll be reet.

Never been a fan of these but the first gen ones like that, and in mint order, are slowly starting to appeal.

Agreed. It’s the sort of car it’s almost impossible to believe still exists. It looks brand new.

Paused for a piss-stop just outside Bideford. About another 2 hours to home I think.

No top down as it’s still showery and the spray from the other lane is horrendous!

Arrived back, all good.

As we used to say in the 90s, let’s run the numbers!

0-60 about 8.7 seconds, 115bhp and I think 115mph.

Oil pressure is 25psi at tickover, 50psi off tickover. 3500rpm at 62mph, 4000rpm at 70mph 😳

It sounds a lot, and it is a lot, but it’s also perfectly happy at 80+ because the engine is quite smooth. That, and the wind noise drowns out the engine 😀

I was specifically looking for an original one, this is one of very few with original wheels!

Stereo is barely working through the right channel, and it sounds back through the left one. Radio aerial is missing too.

Well, not exactly missing, I know where it is. It’s in the boot 🙄
