Cheap Carlton auto for sale in Ipswich

Just spotted this at a local garage just around the corner that is closing down.

I spotted this a few times out and about, It even features in my spotted thread.

It's a 1990 Carlton 2.0i GL automatic with only 75000 miles on the clock, The interior is mint, It's missing it's radio but other than that it's sound.

The exterior is also pretty much spotless as well, it has a couple of small scabs and a very badly welded plate on the dog leg that looks like it's about to full off.

No idea on mot, the tax rans out at the end of the month, but at £295 it won't be up for sale for long.

Garage details are here http://www.boundarycarsales.co.uk/2364/index.htm

Wow that looks pretty tempting actually, I am sorely tempted to buy some old crate for £300 and forget about my sorry Rover 220 experience for ever.

Do it Bo1!, I'll even make you a cup of dishwatery tea if you you buy it as i only live around the corner.

There was a family of indians looking around it as i was leaving so you'd need to be quick though!

Nice Carlton. 8) Shame it wasn't a CDX or Diplomat model with CD changer in the boot.

Ooh I briefly worked at the neighbouring Derby Rd train platform back in late 2004, building a new access ramp. :D The car sales site sold some decent secondhand stuff @ that time. The business owner at that time had a dispute with one of the foreman.

The trouble with this garage is the prices, They did have some very nice stuff but i think he just overvalued it all so it never sold, He has a MG Midget with rubber bumpers that's been for sale for ages, It was £4995 but now it's £2995, That's still a good £1000 overpriced.

Been a while since I saw a pre-facelift Carlton for sale. That one looks pretty tidy (apart from the comedy "welding").

Posted

Just been back and got some more photos, The MG Midget by the way is a bit cheaper then i thought, It's now £1995, This time last year it was £4995!

The interior on the Carlton is a lovely shade of Autoshite beige and I've had a better look at that patch and theres a hole in the end of the sill which would need replating but other then a few scabs the rest looks very good.

That Midget looks very clean!! And my favourite BL colour to boot....Pageant Blue. Any more pics?

Nice looking car that carlton. Did you get to open the back doors at all because the wheel arches (next to the back seat) rot like a bastard on these.

Posted

The Carlton was locked so I couldnt see inside the doors, I wouldn't be suprised if it was clean though.

I'll get some more photos of the MG if you like, it does look very clean although it's been for sale outside a long time which wouldn't help, I bet you could get it for £1500 though.

I've had a few of these, including a gsi [best car EVAR etc] as long as the dreaded rear arch rot isn't present, they're lovely, and surprisingly pez efficient. That's really povo spec, that one.

Posted

Even has the period "Vauxhalls Love Unleaded " Sticker on it. Looks like a serious winmobile for 300 sods

It looks i pretty good order, The floor might need some TLC soon and it has a few rust blister coming through but for a car that's sat outside for at least a year it looks ok, It has 37000 miles on the clock and the interior looks pretty good.

It's not been taxed since 2002 though, I bet you could get it cheap though.

And the Carlton is now gone.

I wonder has that Midget had a respray, as I notice that the Midget badges seem to be missing from the sides. Or perhaps the term was un-PC by 1979.

Posted

I'm sure it's been 'restored' at some point, the paintwork does look good though, the sill have been painted at some point.

I had to respray a Midget years ago from brown to BRG, I preferred the brown myself.

 I would have got it for you if you at that price if wanted it and let you pay me when to came to collect it, Though that wouldn't have really helped your current saga!.

WHAT?!?!?!??! I'm fucking astounded and shocked! Bastards!

without trying to sound funny, but if the guy has had it for ages and nobody turns up with the cash,he gets easy money from the scrappers, thats why folk scrap cars/trade them in.

is a shame but that's life.

Ah, that's probably why....still, seems a waste though.

The car was only on the forecourt for the weekend!

The garage is still open with lots of stock on the forecourt, the MG Midget that was £1995 last week is now at £2995 again as well.

Posted

Might have thrown its box or cooked itself for all we know.

Posted

I hope so, I'd be pretty pissed off if it got scrapped just because it's old and the garage couldn't be bothered with it.

GOT STANCE?

:lol::lol: shame that mind, im going to see a free cdx tomz 8)

I'd best not go showing that photo to the Yoof's or on Saturday night's you'll be seeing Saxos with Escort vans strapped to the roof doing the laps around town.
