I mean really... what kind of faulty brain does it take? We all know what a 1955 Chevrolet Nomad is, right? We can all bring to mind a picture of it? We're pretty much aware of what a rare and significant car it is, especially in England.

Now look...

At first glance, rather sorry for itself, but fixable, right?

Everything is available in the repro market, right?

The car was hidden in a garage for 30-odd years, not 5 miles from my home in Southport, and I didn't even know it was there. I drove past in the small hours going to work one day and thought, that was a Chevy... no surely not! The following day it looked like this. The builders renovating the house had dragged the old girl out of the garage and parked her at the front of the site. That night a bunch of local layabouts broke through the security fencing, beat up the security guard, and torched the Nomad. I know I've moved 2000 miles away but please lads, let me meet you some night... please!

This happened in 2007, by the way, I'm pretty sure either the wreckage has been crushed or it's well on the way to restoration glory by now. I know the flats have been completed.

What the! They went to the trouble of beating up the security guard?

Looks fixable at least, the fire must not have been too bad.

Why would you break into a builders site and beat up a security guard just to set fire to a car?.

Station, it was hidden away for years, so I reckon it was in need of a pretty hefty recommission but that's no excuse for what these idiots did.

That's disgusting, but looking at the damage I reckon someone would've fixed it up. Like a VW splitty, the value of these things makes even the worst project financially viable in the long term.

I do hope so Barrett, I'd love to think it's survived.

Date of liability on the plate is 01/02/2011, so it's probably fine.

I just did a search for 51 EYW on DVLA and the number must be on something, it's not liable until next year. However it's listed as 2358cc, which is about half what it should have. It's also listed as being registered in December 1962; that would be reasonable, you might import a seven-year-old car. So maybe this is the same car, and it has survived.

On Cartell its listed as a Chevrolet GMC but unknown in the model section.

On my little ipod app it's listed as a Chevrolet GMC in red/white, Estate, reg 1/12/1962 with a 2358cc engine. :D

If so, what a waste, it should have a 265ci V8, in fact it did; I looked through the grille, there's definitely a proper lump in there. Well there was, nearly 4 years ago.

People will destroy anything, if it's rare or interesting that only adds to the "thrill"

your talking about banger racing. arson is the product of a sick mind.

The smallest engine Chevrolet used was 3.5 litres, but the car may have survived the fire.
