@GagaStan, we passed through Whanganui on the way from Palmerston North to New Plymouth.. mainly just so I could go to Mt Taranaki🤣

Went to Wellington the first time we were over. Found it very reminiscent of Glasgow.. found decent pizza there

Safe trip

A score, surely? Sung it many times, in my teens.

We were planning to go in the Hyundai, but it popped a fuse as we were heading off - no wipers or blower motor. Not good on a day like today 💀

So we're taking the Xsara instead, but my friend who will be driving back doesn't have extensive experience with driving a manual. All part of the adventure!

The Xsara hasn't missed a beat so far.

Obligatory stop for fresh asparagus, straight from the farm and a Real Fruit ice cream. If you know you know!

I am in Houston so ahead of the game, I do recognise it from my earlier years in the trade and  was thinking Corolla or Hyundai .

This is a brand new copy, and at the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man, the quality really isn't very good. Paper and covers del awfully flimsy!

My copy is decent.  A lot of hastily-scrawled directions without going through the paper and legible.  Obviously changed the print.  Bastards.

You've all waited long enough I think. So here it is!

1996 Daihatsu Move. 659cc manual. Not much power and even less torque!

It has an electronically controlled 'feedback carburettor' which seems to be working okay, but not especially well. Room for improvement there - it's bucking a bit when coming gently back on the throttle after coasting in gear.

Spec wise it's pretty up there - leccy windows all round and even (non functioning) AC! I daren't think what the acceleration would be like with it switched on, best left well alone. I feel lick it should probably have central locking too, but that's not working.

It's a 5 speed manual but hearing is hilariously short - think 4500rpm at 100km/h (62 in freedom units) in top. But the little triple doesn't seem to mind. On some steep hills (8% grade?) we were down to 85km/h in 3rd, foot welded to the floor at 7000rpm, but she loved it! What a fantastic racket.

Owned by one lady for most of its life and done about 85,000 clicks.

Now to the bad bits. Clutch may be slightly on the way out but I've decided I'm not thinking about that. Small but of surface rust just about everywhere underneath, bit nothing that looks very deep. Various clunks that sounds like trim rather than suspension (hopefully). And a passenger belt buckle that won't. Plus the aforementioned carb spluttering. So a small bit of fettling before I take it in for a WOF (MOT), and I should have a lovely city runabout on my hands!
