Selling across the London Congestion zone

I have someone interested in buying the Saab, who has said that the car will be entering the congestion charging zone. While the V5 is at the DVLA for the change of keeper, how do I avoid paying his charges?

new keeper v5c section is dated, check its filled in, post, dont worry about it.

Think you can prepay - or rather, he can prepay. An extra reason to make sure you give him a receipt with date AND time on it...

Other than a time as well as a date on the countersigned receipt you give him on completion of sale, there's the square root of f*ck all you can do.

Electrical insulatin tape - change a few of the letters / numbers on the plates.

Drive through really fast so the cameras don't catch you.

So if the DVLA fuck it up, I'm paying through the nose for someone else?

I know common sense says that you would get away with it, can you imagine the shit you would have to go through to prove you were in Leeds and that you were in no way in London. You would be fine in the end and it would be sorted, but i bet you would have to put up with a load of ignorant call centre bastards reading off a laminated sheet until you got the charges correctly allocated.

However, i am such a fucking miserable bastard and sure that the world is against me you should just ignore me. Make the sale or put a caveat on the reciept to the buyer.

Tell them they can only pick the car up over the weekend and make damn sure the V5 is in the post first thing recorded delivery on Monday morning with a covering letter.

Pre-pay it and add the cost of it onto the cost of the car. He's not paying any more, you're saving your time and effort chasing it.

Move OUT of London and somewhere where is cheaper to own a car
