Some of you might recognise this little Key West – she used to belong to @sdkrc a while back. she was won by my brother in a Retroshite competition and i was "temporary" custodian as he already had an old peugeot on his drive and his significant other may not have agreed to a second.

Had a interesting year, broke down in October, snapped cambelt as I left the mancunian way. Replacement head and she has been running happily ever since.

Passed her MOT in August and decided we both needed an adventure, so lets  do Lejog,  see if a 32-year-old Peugeot and a 47-year-old bloke can still go the distance. Thought I’d share the journey here since the car already has a bit of forum history.

So on Thursday we set off, 447 miles from Manchester, taking in Cheddar Gorge, Lands End and Lizzard point. That's the southern most part covered.

Drivers seat runner only works in furthest position (no issue, I have long legs)

Drivers seat tilt stopped working

@sdkrc had already given me notice on the blocked fuel tank breather, which reared it's head as we pulled into Lizzard Point

Structural cable tie failure caused exhaust heat shield to bounce off the exhaust

So day two, we had an early start again. First problem, our exuberant opening of the sunroof yesterday, perished rubber, and a heavy overnight rainfall led to a little water ingress, we knew we were tempting fate with it but we both wanted to live life 🤣

Up the M6 all clear upto Birmingham.

The peugeot met the enemy, diesel vs electric

Small detour to my brothers, his first view of the car 12months after he won it 🤣

And onto Carlisle

Call into a fuel station after 468miles, first real issue of the trip, engine won't switch off.

Stall it to refuel, get to the hotel and will look at the solenoid valve tomorrow.

Faults so far

Drivers seat

Blocked fuel tank breather

Exhaust manifold - temporarily solved

Leaking sunroof seal

Stop solenoid (hopefully)

Absolutely love this. I miss my 1.5d a surprising amount and should have made more of an effort to fix it. I would definitely have another!

Great to see this one with continued stays of execution. It sounds like several hurdles would have fast-tracked it to the knacker's yard with a less sympathetic owner. They're still decent little cars and the 1.5 derv is beyond frugal, isn't it?

A mate had a brand new 1995 Mardi Gras 106 when we were at uni and that thing was a trooper. I still have fond memories of bouncing the back end of his car around with my mates on several occasions, just to make it a little* more challenging for him to leave his parking space 😂.

Good luck with the rest of the journey!

I'd rather have one that won't switch off, than won't switch on😁

Thanks for taking us along

They do make surprising long distance cruisers, here's my 1.5D having gone UK, France, Spain in Portugal (then back) carrying it's personal continental breakdown service.

I had a L reg 1.4D Graduate many years ago that I bought for about £350, it wasn't a bad old steer, a bit underpowered and plasticy and the CVs joints clicked like fuck but it was probably the cheapest car to run I've ever owned!

All the best with your quest!

We did LeJog back in 1984 in an autoshite equivalent Alfasud 1.2, before the roads in Scotland and the South West were improved to multi-lane carriageways. Much of Scotland was single carriageway. I'll dig out the log of the timings, but I do remember there was no time for a leisurely photo stop or a meal!

Good luck with the trip, I'll be following with interest!

Well the less said about the Carlisle digs, the better 🫣

Was up very early this morning, 3am early, so decided might as well get up and enjoy the roads being quiet.

Decided to live with the fuel solenoid fault and replace when I get home. Didn't want to mess with it and end up with no fuel flow.

Run up was fairly uneventful, we have developed a knock/rumble from the nsf when going around right hand corners/roundabouts

But we completed Lejog

And then popped up the road and ticked off Dunnet Head

So we managed to do Lands End to John O Groats, as well as Lizard Point to Dunnet Head

The old girl has done me proud, we have a shopping list of goodies we are going to buy, she can put her wheels up for a few days, and then she can coast gracefully into old age now having completed this marathon

Well....... after we have called into retroshite tomorrow, and then get home 😁

Back home last night after calling into Shite in the Park.

Compiling a list of repairs and she will get treated this month.

What a road trip, most people would find it boring but I loved it, we both did the challenge and got back home.

1862miles round trip.

MPG varied from 62mpg to 92mpg. Overall for the trip which is the most accurate, 72.3 mpg

This looks like it was great! Looks like the weather treated you as well as it did me a couple of weeks ago when I did the NC500.

Weather was glorious during the day (especially Scotland)  couple of overnight showers on the trip but that was it. NC500 is next years plan I think.
