Porsche 924 Scheiße - hit and run

ARGH sorry to hear this. This kind of thing is the absolute nadir of old car ownership

My neighbour reversed into my BMW and destroyed its front wing. Fortunately, they were decent about it and payed for repair.

Had it been a hit and run, though, I have to say I'd have been tempted to just drive it around as was, rather than declare and suffer write-off / Cat N status.

I think it looked hard as nails, and your 924 does even more so.

On the other hand, I was very glad it was the BMW that got ronnied, and not my Rover, because A) the latter would have sustained much more damage, and B ) repair parts are harder to come by.

(Sincerely hope you reach a vaguely happy outcome, though... I love that 924).

The 924 is already a Cat C from 2001, apparently, so insurance markers don't bother me so much.

My witness isn't responding to emails either, which doesn't bode well so I might be fixing this myself after all.

Thanks - I'll take it down to my local body guy tomorrow and see what he thinks.

This happened to mine a few months back, but luckily I was able to chase the guy and address him face to face.

After photos of him and his van were taken he arranged to pay me 'without involving insurance' as I doubt he was properly insured.

We had it happen to a company car a couple of years back, and the police (West Yorkshire) were really helpful, visited the owner of the offending vehicle, and forced him to get in touch to sort the repairs.

I did attend the police station to report it, rather than doing it online though.

Hope it gets sorted for you!

An enquiry with AskMid has revealed the insurance details for the vehicle that hit mine:

What do I do now? Any ideas?

Ring them and say someone/you saw it happen (ahem) and rinse the fucker. Or… new wing on the cheap and try to forget about it.

Body guy thinks best solution is to beat it out on the car and spray in situ. Cost is £600+ he reckons.

I also put a formal complaint in to the police, and they're going to have a supervisor review the case which seems reasonable. V quick response too!

Be interesting to know if the van has the appropriate type of cover in place for what it was being used for...hire & reward policies aren't cheap...

Well I've emailed Admiral so we'll see what they say.

Unfortunately my witness is a foreign student. He's entirely legit, but is not that keen to get involved for some reason. Without his testimony I don't see how a claim can succeed really.

yeah as I'm finding out at the moment re: Hire and Reward.  Not really sure how self employed logistics folks can make the numbers work tbh

Possibly concerned about issues (real or imagined, in the current climate) with his immigration status if he comes to the attention of "the authorities"?

Hang on, is moving stuff in a van hire and reward? I thought that was for moving people, and moving stuff was commercial/business use (basically the use they assume for a van anyway - they raise eyebrows if you just want a van as "a car") and the expense came with making sure you had cover for what you're carrying.

If I'm wrong on that I need to be aware of it for articles and so forth - I've never heard it before but I can believe it.
