Average car age on the increase - what’s yours?

I get to 208 years over 6 vehicles, giving an average age of 34.7.

The old Rover has skewed things a bit at the grand old age of 66!  Next oldest is the Trabbi at 36 years, and then everything else in the aforementioned 'sweet spot' of the 90's/early 2000's.

I use the RX8 most, my wife the A8.  As it becomes more driveable and reliable though, the P4 is out and about a lot more.  There's nothing really to compare to the driving experience in my fleet anyway, it's just so relaxing and special.

The A8, a 3.7 petrol model from 2003 (the first year of production for the D3), is objectively the best car I've ever experienced... nothing modern or otherwise I've been in can match the blend of comfort and power (and the interior is just beautiful).  I need to try a Jaguar, or the other German luxo-barges to see how they compare.

Ultimately for me though, it's character that matters in a car, and my particular wee collection has that in abundance!

Cheers OP, good thread!

Volvo Amazon - 60years

Very white import RAV4 - 24years

Accord - 11years

Average just a shade under 32yrs. Amazon already feels bomb proof, the RAV4 feels like it would go forever and likely the Accord will need a ridiculously expensive repair at some point and be binned, 'cos modern diesel.

I'm not surprised that cars are getting older. I know the main reasons are COVID and free cash, but when the Accord does go I won't be getting anything newer that is for sure.

So the average age of cars according to the French is getting older.

Yet they're actively putting LEZ type zones in all over the place to restrict the use of older cars?

That can only end well 🤦

Hadn't heard that, just someone I know was saying that they couldn't take their VW bus there towing a caravan any more.

I'll let them know, thanks

Gives an average of 23

i20 at 8 if we're to include Mrs CW's work car

Keeps the average at 23.

No, of course most of the elder ones are terminally borked!

Taking just the ones that are on the road, or just SORNed for reasons of cost we get 17, or 15 if including the stripling
