As some of you are aware I have an 89 Orion Diesel that was my daily for a while, It got put off the road 2 years ago due to a suspected bent valve...I dragged it into the shed 3 months back and went over it to find what it would need repaired, basically rear brakes and 6" of one sill....

I have since then spent £45 on it in parts and have rebuilt all the brakes and sorted the engine. I washed the underneath of it today and have found 2 rather crusty chassis sections about 6" long, to fix it will need to have the rear end stripped off and will probably need new brake lines and a couple of days work on it.......I don't actually need the car, so the question is......

Do I fix it? or scrap it?

I could be using the time to sort some Cortina's out or the Transit...whats your opinons??

Put it in your front garden to slowly rust away, it adds to any property.

Hopefully this photo of one found in the wild will convince you it's the right thing to save the heap.

You'll be the hero of mingebag motoring.

Was that pic taken at McDuff ?

Well I stripped the tank and the exhaust out to get a better look...it's a bit worse than I thought but no more time consuming...so I am going to wait and see what the poll ends up with tonight and decide tomorrw

Fix it. I'm not the biggest Ford fan any more but the Onions always appealed to me. If it's feasible then after lashing out what you already have then you might as well save it.

Cortinas and Transits have loads of fans. Save an underdog. Save a Diesel Orion.

This message brought you by a fan of 80s Fords.

I just voted to scrap it. Ignore that vote, I'm an idiot who can't read.

Bet it drives ace, therefore get it sorted! I loved that MK4 Escort I had brief custody of.

It's definately worth while saving. I've always had a soft spot for the revised orginal shape Orion. It scares me at how scarce these Orions have become over the last five or six years. I hardly see any of them any more. The same goes for their 1990-1992 replacements as it happens.

Your's is a diesel too...! An MMS - Mingebag Motoring Special!

Even if you don't want it, fix it up, keep it a while to enjoy your work, give it a good polish and wax and then sell it if you really want to. I certainly wouldn't scrap it.

dont forget to retro-fit some cortina Mk5 lights for bonus shite points

I also say save it, Orions are rare now and the diesel ones especially so. It sounds like you are on the brink of completely saving it anyway, so you may as well finish.

Considerably better this week Mike...3.5 weeks of pain and hell before that though..all because someone can't put planking on a bit of scaffolding

Had to do the same welding jod on a mk4 xr3, wasnt too bad a job with the car high up on two large axle stands at the back with the front wheels on ramps. Took the tank out and access was pretty good to those rear chassis rails which I ground down to solid metal and plated with good thick plate. Had to save the rear brake pipe mounts and weld them to the new metal. It was only a time consuming job that cost next to nothing in steel plate so I say save it.

as 74% say save it....I guess I'll save it...hopefully have it done this week :D
