The collection mission continues today. Join me at Bath station where I'm waiting for a delayed train to Bristol. As of right now I will have 2 minutes to switch trains at the latter station IF the train is here as stated. We can all guess what the chances for that are...

Only setting off now so train will be missed. I'd be surprised if 50% of journeys by train in this country can undergo without major interruptions at this point, certainly sounds about right from my experience.

With an hour of extra spare time now I think it's time to throw a few hints to anybody still wondering what car I'll hopefully take home today. We've already had one or two correct guesses on the thread but let's keep things interesting for a little longer.

As @Jim Bellhas correctly guessed it's another V8, one of a family of V8s I haven't owned yet (which there cannot be that many left at this point). At the time of launch this was the very first engine of this cylinder arrangement/count for the manufacturer, and only the 4th completely new engine development for the manufacturer from it's very inception.

On the (pretty packed) train to Plymouth now. I won't have much time there, there's a bus to catch! At this point it might become fairly clear where our final destination will be for today.

A few more hints: Today's car was very much inspired by the past, without attempting to ape what was quite the iconic spiritual successor in design, if not driving ambitions. In my opinion it's still a beautiful car today, a design that I'm sure will only be more appreciated as time moves on.

Got to be one of those fancy range rovers with the Jag V8.  Do you have a farm hack yet ?

I'm not sure why I haven't owned an L322 yet. I think it ultimately comes down to bad timing with the cars that were very much on the radar, certainly not unwillingness.

A Jag V8 is indeed an engine I haven't had in any of my cars yet either, despite always being intrigued by them!

Finally in Plymouth, about to board the bus for the last leg of this journey! There it is:

Also being greeted by some prime shod:

raver 75 v8

It's an odd one. Despite knowing the engine well (4Valve modular V8 variant launched in my Mark VIII) I feel like it would feel completely out of place in the 75. The V6 seems more appropriate for it.

Bus taking it's time. Fortunately I have some appropriate travel literature. I already own a few of the cars mentioned on this cover (or variants of them). Today I'll add one more to the fleet!

The fact that HMC is also guessing the car in this thread would make me believe not.

Either that or he is being super sneaky!

Or he's just forgotten what car he was selling this week :)

The fact that it takes 2.5 days to get down to HMC Towers in Tavistock makes his constant parade of new shite acquisitions even more impressive.

I stay within 20 miles of Tavistock 2 -3  times a year and, so far, the planets have failed to align ......  (one being the endorsement of The Child Bride - that rarely aligns)
Well done sir - enjoy :-)

You might be wondering how the trip back to Bath is going? Well, the car decided that it didn't want to leave and casually popped a hose to the engine oil cooler. No harm done to the engine from what I can tell but the trip back ended after the first 3 miles😂

Just one of those failures that are impossible to predict. Big thanks to Mr and Mrs HMC for being such great hosts tonight. Hopefully I can get a courtesy car for the next few days, the rest will be dealt with by AutoAid.

It could have been worse. Surprisingly I will get a car for the duration of the time it takes them to deliver the car to my garage of choice. That will get me a car to travel home as planned on Sunday while also getting the Jag up to where I need it.

Not how I expected our evenings to go! I felt dreadful about things and was off in the quattroporte support vehicle straight away but sadly became clear an oil cooler hose had let go. Its an old car, but that doesnt make me feel less bad. I hope the rest of your trip goes more smoothly!
