Not directed at anyone in/on here, but the internet is fucking ram full of people who suggest they'd go round and stomp on someone's head/rape their budgie/slightly abuse their nan/etc but in reality the vast majority of them would do absolutely nothing of the sort. It's easier to give it large behind a keyboard than to face reality for plenty of people.

Fortunately I really am some sort of unhinged fucker in real life, hence the career change from driving a taxi. I was begining to enjoy the trouble which is always the best time to quit.

Not proud of it but I'm a lot more mellow now. I must be getting old.

Here Mike I just thought...we could get the 3am gang together for a reunion :lol::lol:

Josh-2. NAB 848D & NAB 850D.

Unless anyone else knows different?

Anyway -it was found dumped yesterday afternoon-currently with SOCO.

I'm told it has a shredded tyre -nothing else mentioned.

Seems the glare of publicity means that the scrote -who intended to banger race it -decided against.

I now know who, how he towed it(ic the vehicle details) where he hid it and -perhaps most important-where he lives.

Hope he reads this.....

Just read this again, and don't take this as an incitement to violence. If you know where the car was hidden, I would say regular checks there would be in order. Just popping round for a friendly hello once a week might save another pride and joy. OK so the police don't give a toss, we do. Even if it's private land, if you are walking into or past an open gate, the worst thing it could be is trespass. If it was nearer I would do it.

OK so he could move, but that's a nice bit of inconvenience and a bit of a plus....

Safe.

Some damage -a wrecked tyre-but the alloys Ok,and is now sporting a replacement.

The rear seat squab is gone-guess he ''Harvey Frost'd'' it - and used that (semi successfully) to protect the front. I'll go on a hunt-he'll not want to keep it and will probably have dumped it close by.

Chassis plate gone - no real worry as its still engraved.

Locks punched- but I can find something to fit.

Battery knicked -and it had clearly been running despite the lack of a rad.

Interestingly -its a battery I'd easily recgonise again-several small but important features.

Brakes have suffered some damage -clutch feels 'strange' and a little bodywork from flailing rubber- but all in, I'm happy.

I'm so pleased this car is back in safe hands Nigel. I was mortified to learn it had gone.

Hope you get it roadworthy again with little stress.

:D

Thanks heavens for that. I guess glass/chrome and things like that would have been very difficult to source so at least that's all OK. Hope running it when dry hasn't cooked it. Odd that he's swiped the chassis plate but the number plates are still on it...

+1 - glad it's still in one piece. Given the way it was steaming and whistling like a kettle when you pulled into the bubble car museum and seems to have suffered no ill effects, hopefully being run without a rad won't have done any permanent damage. I would like to think that whoever nicked it is absolutely cacking himself at the moment.

so exactly how well do we need to chain our classics down to prevent these people?

if they are using towtrucks or cranes then no engine immobiliser or steering lock is going to work.

I have had several notes left on my 604 and people talking to my wife saying that they want to buy it etc. She said that one of them had a truck

If I concrete a loop of steel into my drive and physically chain the car to the drive would that stop them?

Posted

I'm really pleased you've got this one back Nigel, sorry to hear about the damage but hopefully you'll be 'compensated' by the guilty party.

dieselnutjob, sadly, if someone really wants your car, they'll get it, all a steel loop will do is deter opportunists, at worst the hiab would ruin the roof and teh undercarriage, not to mention your drive, with the ensuing tug job...

Sad world we live in when even you prize shite isn't safe....

Just out of interest, roughly how many of these 411's are left in the UK?

Keep up at the back, there's a good chap!

I'm glad that this has been found, good luck with getting it back to the previous condition, Nigel.

Thanks all. Mechanically-its tough-as those at the Bubble car meet witnessed.

Rad will be here tomorrow (I was loathe to pay for it till I had a car it fitted!).

New tyre is on Ok.Rims knocked about -but it'll live.

Everything electrical was switched on- so I'd guess he was using its lights to start stripping. Chassis plates a bummer-I'll never replace that.

HS-there arent any.

Datsun didnt bring these into Europe. This one came from Oz, t'other from Scandinavia. I've 2 - no one has ever shown me another.

I'm sure more knowledgeable peeps will be along shortly to tell you the very first few were the 510 -its successor,& 240Z, both around 1969.

Again -thanks everyone.

Blimey! Didnt realise it was an import! My knowledge of the very early Nippo-tat obviously needs working on. I guess the thief probably also didnt realise this either.

Was it a printed metal plate? If you can find an image of one to copy then I know someone who could likely replicate the artwork. There are definitely places that could make a one off.

I realise it won't be the same as having teh one the car came with but next best thing?

Posted

All in all not too bad, I suppose. The thing I would be most gutted about would be the seat. You can get them recovered, but can you get one done from scratch?

As for security, maybe it would be a good thing to photograph our chassis plates. I already did a few of ours, for a question from somebody on me forum.

It's a bit disturbing really, to have the chassis plate nicked. Is it possible to put a note on the DVLA in case somebody tries to apply for the V5 or rings one up?

What's the deal with the insurance on this? Are they OK with paying out or would they want to write it off?

Posted

Surely a chassis plate from a car which is unique in the country where it is, is pretty useless. its not like you can clone another one with your stolen ID is it. Of course, if you are shit thick and do not realise that what you're nicking is unique, then you might nick the chassis plate anyway out of 'routine'.

Posted

Agreed, yes and yes, oh and yes probably pig shit thick..... Still a worry though, something else could go missing on the back of this.

Posted

Surely the chassis plate was removed as part of a (curtailed) series of events to remove any identity from the car?

Anyway, good to hear that it’s been found.

I shall continue to be as careful as possible about where and when I use the Laurel – if I’m not confident about where it’s going to be parked up then I don’t take it.

Posted

Seth-brilliant! What a great idea.

I can use the other(lhd)to get a copy sorted. I've got all the numbers from the import docs - may even have a photo in the file of the chassis plate.

However-theres a 50/50 chance I can still find it.... cant really add to that yet.

Likewise the seat....

The miscreant is a numpty - thats becoming increasingly clear. There does now seem to be an independent trail of verbal evidence forming.

Old Bill still havent even contacted me-at all.

HS -I imported it. I found it in the boonies of Melbourne, (via t'internet) & shipped it over.

Got several other such 'rarities ' from there too - its a good way of getting an early rot free unique car for sensible money. Highly recommended.

Likewise.

Though I suspect it will be a case of 'closing ranks', yet again.
