You might have seen one or two of these before - if you have, get over it.

These flats looked about the same up until maybe 2000-ish when they awkwardly "facelifted" them.

Posted Image

West Riding Buses. Bet whoever drove that Cortina was a right hooligan - no bumper and spotlights.

Posted Image

"My life isn't in quite enough peril - I'll pull in and get some Woodbines"

Posted Image

These people have "mojo".

Posted Image

Horbury Junction, so poor it doesn't even have real roads.

Posted Image

This is George and Crown Yard and it's from 1993! Look at all the new cars, you'd have to be a bit swanky to park here. Can't park here now though! Bad luck.

Posted Image

Bank Street. For the Renault nerds.

Posted Image

Minsthorpe High School. Pog's down there in his Escort van doing some surveying or whatever, hope no unruly kids put stuff up the exhaust.

Posted Image

Former site of the tramways depot. Back in the days where it was obvious which car belonged to the boss.

Posted Image

Wakefield Market House. GONE. Is that a CA? Bet it's an ice cream van.

More to come later, perhaps.

Because it's so hot, here's some nice wintery snowy pictures of Castleford.

Posted Image

What the! Looks quite upmarket.

Posted Image

Same street, further back. Is that an Acclaim or a Ballade?

Posted Image

Just some more snowy- WHAT'S WITH THE GRANADA?!

Posted

5 door limo coupe???

Posted

I bet Sid and Doris had to exercise some great restraint to resist the temptation to go DRFTN round that snow covered street in their Volvo 345.

Posted

The Castleford ones were taken in the future.

Love it. All roads lead to Rome. Not in Friggin Cas. "Leeds or The North." Tek yer pick, and fuckin' 'urry up 'baht it, tha nos.

Thanks for putting these up Hirst, I love seeing these types of old photos. How did you access them?

Posted

Great!

Is that an HB Viva estate outside the school? Or maybe an Opel version? :?

Posted

Definately a Viva, Seth.

Opels were still a separate species at that time.

A holiday to Blackpool. Bit of a rum lot.

Posted Image

Demolition of some terraces in Ossett, can only imagine how many rollups were smoked during this job.

Posted Image

Not yet Dulux-ed up and advertising some local recovery truck business.

Posted Image

Never trifle with the WYDAWAKE RADIO PATROL. They've got dogs!

Posted

Posted Image

Full of "revellers" now.

Posted Image

And so is this.

Posted Image

Dirty Cortina.

Posted Image

Used to work here! It's all boarded up now, probably going to be demolished, because it doesn't look trendy enough.

Posted Image

My mum used to tell me that in her day there were very few cars around, to be honest I think she was talking rubbish.

Posted Image

Kirkgate looks better in the old days.

Posted Image

No cars in this one, I posted this up for the old style road signs! Woolworth(s) remained there until they went bust a few years back.

Posted Image

Not even sure where this is, probably got demolished.

Posted

I would hazard a guess that the last pic is Northgate.

Qual' pics.

Is this the old court building, near a railway station, the bridge to which has the old advertising for shirts? Think it used to be the DSS or something too. Streetnames clearly aren't my forte but if you can decipher whether this is the same building, then I did some filming there last year, when the 3rd floor was used as a police investigation office.

If not, then that is of no interest whatsoever. Soz!

Posted

It's Chantry House, old council building - there was indeed some filming there for some cop thing or other. I actually used to be on the third floor.

I like how in this one it looks like they're just putting the finishing touches to a brand new up do date front on an old knackered victorian row...
