New shite - I R EXTATIK

YES!!

Finally, the absence of a square, russian, Fiat-based turd from my life for over 10 years was too much to bear. So last night I did a 'deal' on a shit-brown Riva saloon 1.5 :lol::lol:

I won't be collecting it for another 6 or 8 weeks, but I'm practically creaming my pants in anticipation already... it's a bit like looking forward to an assignation with a fondly-remembered ex. Actually, it's not, but similar?

Anyhoo, bad news for Shiters is that I'll be 'tastefully' modifying it, although I can promise that won't involve matt black paint or banded steelzorzz. 8) I'll be improving/ruining the wallowy ride (depending on your preference) with some Niva springs, adding some 70s Abarth alloys to fill da archezz yo, doing a 'waistline' 2-tone job (probably with cream/beige) and making wit' da pinstripingzzz in orange. Probably.

I'll also be pointing it sideways in Tesco's car park in a totally irresponsible and immature way, at least for a few weeks, until I've got the communist euphoria out of my system :D:D

EDIT: I've managed to find an epically shite photo of the ACTUAL CAR itself:

Is it a North Wales car? Seem to remember the 'SCC' suffix being a local one around Conwy.

Sure is - the guy who I'm buying from 'rescued' it from a trailer literally en route to the banger track!! It's not got huge mileage so I'd guess it was 1 or 2 local owners before that.

Bangering a Riva? Most people go for paracetamol overdose these days if life gets too much, but I guess the end result is the same....!

Good save though and your plans sound interesting, especially period alloys. Well, period for the styling.... "Period" for a 1992 car is more like TSW Hockenheims isn't it? :)

I thought Rivas were GR8 4 DA OVAL. Remember all that bollocks that Torsten had off banger racers with his estate?

Is that Kev's or one of his mates by the way?

Yep, tis Kev's - he's had it kicking about for ages, but I've cleverly waited for him to rebuild the clutch and brakes and MOT it before taking it off his hands

Looks superb! 1.5 should go "well".

1.5 does indeed go (relatively) well - exactly the same engine as my old ride many moons ago. Once you learn where the power is, and how to handle the 'interesting' gearbox, it's a very useful tool - GR10 4 surprising the drivers who think redlining their Astra will release large reserves of thrust.

I always wanted to try a 1.6, but I don't think they shipped very many of them. The Nive 1.7i would drop straight in if I wanted any more poke. As indeed would a 2.0 Fiat twink, but I still live in fear of Italian engines

Kev has also found out that an Iveco 2.5 td bolts straight on to the gearbox :lol: gotta say I'm tempted!!

2.0 twink powered lada Rocks, had one about 15 years ago.....AWSOME !!!!

Didn't Top Gear give Lotus one of these ?

It looked ace !

Rather fond of the old Rivas , so good work MrDuke.

I had some wheels of the bloke who owned the Lotus Lada for my wifes old Riva, Vlad. He had sold it on to a German bloke. He had another early Lada and a Moskvitch though.

a Lada with a 2.8TD Iveco van engine sounds like something i would defo wanna get intimate with. 8)8)

Nice one (on it being Kev's old car) I've seen that and it looks well.

If you leave in fear of Iti engines though for God's sake keep away from an Iveco lump.

Bizarrely, I've now seen this car for real. I went and picked up the sizeable lump of old C&SCs that Kev went and got for me from Area 52....and there it was!

Due to my numberplate autism and being unaware of the KFW connection, I was quite surprised when Kev showed me into shed no. 2....

They did sell the Riva with the 1.7i from the Niva for a period in some parts of Europe. Although having experienced Lada's attempts at fuel injection with a Samara GXi I think I'd be tempted to stick with a carb.
