To replace my first gen Megane with, what turned out to the the 307SW. I drove a 1.5 Dci 5 seater Scenic - That did not have any power to get us tow and the salesman up a hill without changing gear. The same hill in the 307 takes it 5th.

Fiat Tipo SW? Not 1.6 and up, but newer than what’s been discussed and generally a nice place to be.

Why not consider the Tipo estate with the NA 1.4 FIRE engine?

So you gave up the seat to the wife and she's popped you in the overhead locker as her luggage? That'd be cramped - I'd have bought two seat tickets ;-)

Euro 6 Peugeot 208 THP - post 2016?

Maybe the Citroen equivalent

I picked up the rental at Schiphol.

Reserved a VW up! which was upgraded to a Polo.

I just cannot get on with a lot of bells a whistles on newer cars. Like this display.speed.thumb.jpeg.907e3da0519f0e8a62555cb26b466e5e.jpeg

I was doing 90KMP in what zone? The wife took the image though the steering wheel so it is a wee bit blurred as we could not see what the phone was taking an image on.

The cruise control is cleaver in that it reads the distance between you and the car in front and keeps a distance. But if the outside lane slows it will not allow you to undertake, not even for a few metres. Without cruise engaged and if you go just a few km over what it thinks is the speed limit you get reminded.😕

I tried to use the cruise so i turned it on at 120

And pressed plus to turn it up to 125 to see if id done it right

It changed down and floored it (!?)

Didnt use it after that

It does lots of kmh and lucky that das polizei/guardia uncivil are lit up from the back

( I thought he was on the hard shoulder)

Not sure about the display from your photo but all the other stuff should be adjustable and / or turn-off-able.

Missed the first part of this thread. Good luck with purchase.

Why not chuck caution to the wind, be an idiot and buy a Jaguar like mine:

ULEZ friendly in Brussels, London and Birmingham which are the main places I (used to) often find myself.

My 2001 reg'd Vectra is also registered to use in Brussels and thus ULEZ friendly.

It is a 2.6 though, you'd probably want a 1.8 petrol.

So please tell me how. You don’t get a owners manual with the car. You have to jump into it and drive out of the car park.

Thanks for that. Because of trips mainly running through Spain, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, into The Netherlands and popping occasionally into Germany I ran into this website https://urbanaccessregulations.eu/

Diesels are the bad boys especially pre-euro standards. Some zones have band all diesel cars.  This may get worse.  I have got quite sceptical of the need to these anti-pollution controls. They are not making any sense to me.

Maybe you cannot you cannot enter Brussels now.

Bruxelles has a low emission zone in place.
The minimum standards are:

1st January 2023
petrol cars, vans, buses and coaches: Euro 2
diesel cars, vans, buses and coaches: Euro 5

1st January 2028
petrol: Euro 4

I do not understand why all services of the police in Spain have the non flashing blue lights on at all times. It gives the position away.

Both the Vectra and Jag are registered to drive in Brussels low emissions zone until 31/12/2027, so I have at least another 3 years to use my cars there.

Brussels were looking to phase out the Euro 5 (or 6) diesel cars, which caused my Dad to sell his car, however, apparently they went back on that decision and still let those cars.

I wouldn't have been able to use my Peugeot 407 if I still had it. I was looking to sell it, sadly it took itself out of the scene before I could.

Brussels apparently has 30+ years old vintage vehicle exception, so by the time ban rolls out in 2028, anything pre-1998 will be fine. Not great, not terrible.

We were thinking of hitting Ghent this summer with a Euro 4 Diesel - they have the same rules (I think on 30 year old stuff) - we cannot get a free permit for ours as its 2006 but they will accept €35 for a day pass or €25 for a week's pass.
If we rock up there we'll just go park and ride and try not to drive into the forbidden zone.

Brussels, on the other hand, €350 fine - no passes -I think if we go there then it'll be by train :-)

Drive settings will be in a menu somewhere, alternatively just use your preferred search engine to find a manual such as this.

Nice but I have got a VW Polo on rental that is the dash. I said that in the post.
