Transferring the contents of my hard drive onto my new computer I found a file of shite-spottings that I thought I'd lost long ago. So here for your viewing pleasure are some snaps from the 2008 and 2009 Boxing Day classic car/bike/steam gatherings in a local village square. In no particular order:

Now some general shite from the street- mainly around Bristol:

And finally (for now) some spots from a jaunt to the French Alps:

Future-shite?

Old Range Rover + tired VM turbodiesel + high altitude =

Some great spots there, top work! Id like to see more of that 60s lineup headed by a MKI Capri though, Bristol looks quite a lot like London......

3 cylinder perkins engined

my old man has one of these

My housemates old man used to have a 200 BRM. Went like the clappers as far as I remember. The only time I was ever in it he had picked me up from Brighton train station as i had fallen asleep and missed Worthing on the last train and i had rather unfortunately been sick on myself. He kindly picked me up.

Just as well it had leather seats.

Thanks Jozza, some great spots there, there's enough clag behind that frog Rangey to put a Class 37 to shame.

LOVING the Bedford van also, if Autoshite did ambulances etc etc.

2CV owner envious of DS steering headlights?

Some great spots 'n stuff :D

:D @ 2CV.

Great shots, but what is this lovely little saloon?

Thanks for the compliments guys :)

Great shots, but what is this lovely little saloon?

It's a pre-war Standard Flying Twelve. Here's the back end (got to love split rear windows on a car!):

Posted Image

My Dad has a later (and rather scabbier) drop-head version of the Twelve (note deleted bonnet louvres, lack of rolled-over bumper ends, solid rather than steel-spoked wheels and chromed radiator grille surrounds, all part of the post-war austerity cost-cutting drive):

From the number that looks like it's been 'transferred' yet from the state of it, appears unlikely to have seen an MOT this side of 1990....:lol:

Cheers for the info, love those Twelves!

Found these snaps I took on the Shetland Islands. This is what happens when you leave a 1960s British car in a salt-laden environment. How good are your spotting skills? I think the first one is the mortal remains of a Morris Minor but the others I don't know.

bottom ones engine looks very toyotaish, early hiace/hilux maybe with the column shift.

Ohhh no, an OJC! :cry::cry::cry:

But where has all the glass and plastic gone? Rusted away?

Went to the HMS Sultan Summer Show in Gosport yesterday. There was a small but well-turned-out classic car contingent:

No. 1 looks BMC but too big for minor, how about ohv Oxford or Farina, but then the steering wheel doesn't look to have the multiple spokes of BMC

No.2 Anglia 105E

No.3 Toyota. or Isuzu?

And love your spots!

It's been a long time since I've put up any pics, but here's the haul from this years Boxing Day old car gathering:

CIMG1963.jpg

Chevy dayvan complete with (obligatory?) airbrush Native-American-Chief artwork

CIMG1961.jpg

CIMG1959.jpg

Nice biscuit-beige Series III diesel Landy

CIMG1966.jpg

Unusually original-spec GTI Mk1

CIMG1963.jpg

CIMG1960.jpg

CIMG1965.jpg

CIMG1987.jpg

A very nice Vogue of the non-Range-Rover-variety

CIMG1981.jpg

Series II Landy with a PTO-driven welder (for those last minute patches on the way to the MOT?)

CIMG1984.jpg

Not sure if it was there as part of the gathering or just a farmer doing his shopping, but still.

CIMG1979.jpg

Lovely Vanguard, complete with Fergie TE-20 tractor engine

CIMG1975.jpg

It takes dedication to drive a Series I Landy with no roof or door tops when it's -5.......

CIMG1972.jpg

.....even when the mirror ices up.

CIMG1968.jpg

CIMG1973.jpg

CIMG1986.jpg

What I thought was a rather straight-looking Chevette....

CIMG1969.jpg

....turned out to have a Wankel engine under the bonnet!

CIMG1971.jpg

CIMG1970.jpg

This Morris 1100 was yours for £500- perfect for re-enacting scenes from 'Clockwise'. It came complete with saggy Hydrolastic on the driver's side.

CIMG1974.jpg

A very nice pre-war Peugeot.

CIMG2009.jpg

Mmmmm....7-litre single-cylinder dieselsy goodness

CIMG2010.jpg

CIMG2007.jpg

CIMG2005.jpg

CIMG2000.jpg

CIMG2002.jpg

CIMG1998.jpg

CIMG1997.jpg

CIMG2008.jpg

CIMG2012.jpg

Did the stylists in Detroit purposely set out to maim pedestrians on the front of the car or is that just a side-effect?

CIMG2013.jpg

One for the hall of shame- purple Stag with boot spoiler, 'leaping Stag' logo on the front wing and naff bonnet vents.

CIMG1956.jpg

And my Dolly made it as well. I had a chance encounter with a former owner who was able to nip back home and dig out the spare set of keys he'd had lying around for years which was a bonus.

I used to drive a 109 Land Rover a few years ago... KEL 462E. Small world.

Posted

The little 100E is perfect. The 1100 also looks great but I bet it's formed entirely of rust being held together by the outer panels

Posted

Nice shots - my first reaction to the Peugeot shot was 'gorgeous, shame it's only part of the car', but then I saw the bag - nice detail work! ;-)

I made a daytrip to Paris on Saturday to go to Retromobile- something I haven't done for a few years. There's not much in the way of true 'shite' (a lot of very shiny, very expensive concours classics and racing cars) but there are some examples of what in the real world are shite but are in excellent nick because they've been in a French car company's museum all their life.

I will get to Retromobile one day. Been saying that for a few years like, butr it will happen. However much it costs would be well worth it to see that amount of kit.
