Ask @Talbot how much fun he had at Shitefest.

And at Snetterton...

The small-town-on-wheels is currently having a holiday on the drive at Chaseracer Towers, since the next time he'll need it is the 2CV race at Oulton Park on 12th October and it seemed pointless tugging it all the way south to Talbot Hall and back.

As others have said, can't go wrong at that money.

Even the empty bodies sell for more than that.

grrrr....   Looks @catsinthewelder with a slightly triggred look on his face!

Benefits

  • Smaller than a caravan to tow, and hence very easy.  Smaller to store too, and far easier to move by hand.
  • Lots more space.  The one I have is chuffing massive once set up.  you can park a car in it and walk around it without issue.
  • Lots more berths.  These can often sleep 6/8 people, and if you bring small bell tents, they can be set up in the main area and sleep even more inside.
  • proper beds compared to tenting.  Most have decent matresses on wooden slats and are very comfortable.
  • cheap to buy.  Mine cost £100.  Someone spent about £7k on it when it was new

Drawbacks

  • a massive effort to set-up and take down each time.  If you put all the awnings on (mine has three!) it will take well over an hour and you will be knackered.
  • You have all the drawbacks of a tent (flaps in the wind, noise of rain etc) and still have to tow a trailer.

Verdict:  Ideal for 2 weeks in the south of france or to set up for longer periods.  Absolutely crap for a weekend away.  Just so much work!

Thanks for the info, I think we may use it in place of an camper van temporarily (until I can pick up a minibus to convert) but no wild camping so I reckon if we go anywhere it’s gonna be a week or 2 in situ. I hate putting tents up but I don’t see this as being as bad, especially after you’ve done it once or twice and mark the poles up with tape.

It's not quite as bad as putting up a frame tent, but it's not far off, as there is still a frame to put up and about 700 tent pegs to nail into the ground.  Plus guy ropes etc.  The neat trick to putting these up is to leave the canvas on the folding bit, so that it just pops up when you unfold it, and when you put the awning up, zip the canvas onto the folding bit first, then shove it all up onto the "roof" of the folding bed area.  Then put the frame up, and pull the canvas over.

Same works backwards for dismantling.

Mis-hap with a key for the Tow Ball flange (not the correct key)

if I fit this (it is ready) am I going to have issues getting it off without a key? Is the key for anti-theft?

Will it push and turn without the key? Some do,some don't. Most just lock for security and work fine without a key- makes no difference to the operation of it. You can buy these knobs and keys separately.  If you take off the sticker, there should be a screw underneath..
