Nowadays I put a small pair of vice grips on the shaft even if it seems like it'll stay up. My skull has had too many impacts over the years to trust any of them!

Not had much chance to do anything on this other than driving. The only thing that has really happened is the parking brake malfunction is on constantly now. Code is coming up for the hall sensor left. I.e. the motor control is bad.
Question for @Split_Pin and @Kiltox
I believe there was a caliper replacement and a cheap parking motor replacement that happened. Wondering if you guys can shed some light on which this was? Wondering if I can just throw a cheap new motor on it like kiltox did or if I need to fork out some dough on a new brake caliper.

I changed both rear calipers and they both came with a new motor.

It's having a shit fit because it thought the brake pads were 3mm but they were more like 5. This threw on the brake pad light so I lied to the scanner and input 10mm. The PB malfunction was on most of the time I had the car as a result.

So I reckon a new set of pads should do it.

I had a look at the pads and they look like they have a good chunk of meat left on them? I'll change them anyway before I do the caliper or anything since the discs need changing anyway. Hopefully that'll sort it.

Yes they have loads of life left but for some reason the scanner had them down as 3mm and pinged the brake pad light. But now the PB is wondering why it's having to extend further than it would if the pads were brand new, when they are in fact about 5mm. If that makes sense 😅

Dumb design but here we are!
Thanks for clearing up

Small update.
I haven't changed the rear discs and pads or done the turbo yet because I've been busy with lots of stuff. It's also been livable so never had the urgent need.
I've been whinging about my life on here quite a bit but I've been on the up recently. House sorted, some exams done etc. So thought I would spread some positivity for a change and also for some Scottish Highlands photo op.IMG-20250118-WA0008.jpg.705bef70f980f0fd2fd24afb0852aad1.jpgIMG-20250118-WA0006.jpg.6c959ba835846d092c018a7486988a2a.jpgIMG-20250118-WA0007.jpg.5ed1e1f69cee9db8d5f255f08218a782.jpg

Small job done on this today. Not sure if its any better mind you because i forgot to take a before picture. Stoopid.
The boot always used to sit a little high. Ive adjusted the electric latch and it seems to be better but my old phone with all the pictures on has been lost at sea so i cant fully tell. I think its better?20250416_183941.jpg

Very nice, this seems to be a very common issue on the D3 and my S8 had it as well, apparently the torque of the boot lift motor is to blame. Can you tell me how exactly you adjusted the latch? I had a look before and didn't see any easy way.

Quite easy. The latch on the bottom half is accessed by just taking out 3 plastic clips, lift the floor and it just pops out. Then its 3 nuts and i loosened them off and pushed the latch down. Took 5 mins.

Did you ever get anywhere with the turbo actuator? Still miss this car!
Still not done it. 95% of the time its fine and if its not i can get it back working again within 30 seconds so it's not been enough of a pain to make me fix it. I think i will do though at some point. Wafts ever so well.

On the bright side i fiddled about with the handbrake pad thickness and the handbrake error has been off for a while now.

Unfortunately one of the parking sensors has fallen inside the bumper and it was plaing up before so i need to get another one and fit it. They really do come in handy for parking it i find.

Good news, especially on the pad thickness, I could never work out what the car wanted me to tell it!

I think you had the car quite a few owners before me! They weren't with the car when I bought it from Schaefft, maybe Kiltox fitted them?

When I had it the boot release was a bit 'explosive' and was definitely in need of adjustment. My mojo was somewhat worn down after replacing the radiator twice and both rear calipers at that point 😂 I can't believe I did a job on a car on my drive that my local garage wouldn't touch! It wasn't that hard really.

I'd definitely have a petrol one of these in the future, Audis suit me I think!

I was on about the red audi cab. The boot wouldn't stay open when I had it.

Ah right, I can't remember now but the boot had no issues staying open  on tjw eed one so I must have fitted them right enough 😅
