My 924 for sale........

Ok, I admit. Another failed project!

Im gutted to have to do this but needs must. Too many cars and not enough money!

This lovely 1982 924 has spent the last 11 years in a nice warm barn until I rescued it. I had planned on doing the neccessary work to get it MOT'd and use it as an inexpensive fun car, blatting around country lanes with the roof panel off and the windows down. Great! Unfortunately I have recently become a pennyless loser due to a few large bills arriving in quick succession and cancelling out any fun I may be deriving from life.

The 924 was owned originally by an airline pilot before it was bought by a Doctor in 1989. He used it until 1999 when he parked it in his barn after replacing it with a larger car for his family. When it was parked up it was still on the road and had no issues.

The 924 is generally in pretty good order but by no means a minter. Theres a dent in the N/S wing at the front and the odd light dent here and there, nothing too drastic. Theres the odd bleb of rust, just surface stuff though. Underneath the bodywork is fantastic! It would make an ideal daily driver as it stands but would be easy enough to repair and do up properly. The paintwork is very shiny as I spent a weekend machine polishing it. It gets loads of admiring glances and nice comments when I move it from the garage to the drive. I forget to tell people its not actually on the road!

Inside the interior is fair but usable with wear to the centre of the drivers seat, wear to the rear seat and the odd trim panel has shrunk and peeled with age. Again, you could use it as is without an issue but it would be easy and cheap enough to make mint.

All electrical systems seem to work, electric windows, lights, indicators e.t.c

Nearly forgot, the drivers outer front seat mount has been bodged in the past. I removed the seats to enable me to clean the whole interior out and I found the seat mount has been welded in after the captive nut fell out. I had to use a chisel to get the seat out and the seat mount now needs a small welded repair. No problem really but it would need doing for MOT (if it was spotted)

Mechanically it needs work. The engine isnt running and I have obtained a good used high pressure fuel pump to repair the original which had seized. There may be other things that need fettling before the engine will run. The engine turns over on the starter easily enough and the compression sounds good. I have poured petrol into the intake manifold and the engine will run for a while before it cuts out. Oil pressure light goes out on the starter after a few turns. It shouldnt take too much work to get it going. It was running well when it was parked up back in 1999.

The tyres were brand new when parked up but obviously are now 11 years old. A tyre fitter has checked them over and they would get through an MOT easily. Use them at your own risk.

Clutch is OK and but brakes may need attention. They operate normally but seem a bit sticky. They may need work or may free up in use.

Overall this is a great genuine "barn find" project and should be on the road with a weekends work.

Im not sure how much to ask. Does £300 sound reasonable?

Don't know if this will help any potential buyers (hopefully it will though) but there's a 924 in a breaker's yard just outside of Chester.

Cheers Billy,

Ive just been watching the TG episode where they all buy sub 10k supercars. It kinda makes me want to keep this old Porka. Ok, its closer to a Volvo 340 than a Masarati but its definately got the fun factor.

Theres someone on RR that seems very keen- he just needs to arrange transport. If he doesnt want it and theres no concrete interest within the next week or so Ill just eat asda basics pasta for the next few months and repair my damaged bank balance that way, rather than flogging off anything marginally cool I own. Atleast I can tell the missus I tried to sell it!

Lets see what happens.

Observe my mini drift out of Tesco's car park at 0.32! GR7.32 4 IMPRESIN 12 YER OLD KIDZ.

I got mine after a mk1 MR2 which had Koni suspension and this was just as fun to drive.

Rest of the video is boring, don't watch.

I have to say im genuinely upset to see it sold. I cant even spend the money on some other tat, its got be used to reduce "the deficit".

Oh well, im sure there will be other Porsches, if I really want one!

Is it staying 'within the community'?

I bet it wasn't the dickhead trying (and failing) to ruin BOLLOX's thread(s) on Retro-Rides.

What's the wee thing on the left at 8:56 that looks like a mk1 Fiesta?

Looks like a stock Mk1 but with round XR2 headlights. I am sure it's not though! Probably some 1970s American compact, fitted with a 4 litre V6 and more emissions reducing equipment than an eastern european coal power station.

Didn't somebody on here post up a US-Spec Mk1 Fiesta brochure? I'm sure they did come with XR2 style lights as standard.

Thanks for finding that Richard !

Doesn't a US-spec look ... well wrong ?

(Personal opinion may be wrong)
