Collecting a mini, now rust rust and more rust

Recommended Posts

It’s Wednesday morning, we’re wearing sunglasses and it’s an hour to Welshpool to collect the trailer to go onto our destination

So far I haven’t even left bed properly but cup of tea count  = 1

amd the all important poo count = 1

(yes I left bed for this)

Anyone going to be bold and guess what we are picked up for mrsstinkwheel on eBay?

(after I’ve done repairs and fixes and stuff obviously)

I reckon it's a 1990 Citroen AX GT, and it's a tidy car besides needing a new engine, gearbox, interior, and most of the body welded.

Peugeot 806 or dispatch, probably a 806 as it has a rev counter!

That towing or on the trailer?
If it's on the trailer then my vote is a 306
If it's towing then the collection is for an upgrade* to the Maestro so .... Ami8

Nice job - no BOGOFF deal though (room for 2 Minis on that trailer :-) )???

Good luck with it, may the odds ever be in your favor, and I really hope that it causes less headaches and FTPs than mine.

If I didn't spend so much money on it I'd probably set mine on fire by now, and I can fully understand how they got so rare despite 5.3 million being made.

An absolute hoot to drive when it works though.

There was me thinking you'd gone for a C6

...

Do you want a C6?

FTPs? FTPs? How can that be? Aren't they as reliable as a wood burning stove?

Only time my son's FTP'd was when it was embedded in the back of a car.

Or it was raining.

I’d love one, but not had the chance yet. I’m not sure I’m that much of a masochist

Wow, that is lovely*.

It’s a lot of work,  it it was also cheap. I decided I can do work but don’t have much money, so it kind of works out all right in the end*

An engine, what size or flavour remains to be seen. I know it hasn’t got a flywheel fitted right now for sure

E was for economy, as apparently it had the economy tuned lump from the metro HLE

part of it being kind of a survivor is why we wanted this one - it’s not been taxed since 1992 (when it presumably failed an mot for rust and someone cut off all the front)

it’s last 3 owners have all been in mid wales so god knows how it got here from London

Good luck buddy. I really enjoyed doing up my Sierra and would happily take on another project in due course.
