MOTs per Make & Model last year

I don't know if anyone can make head or tail of the spreadsheet below, which was linked to a question on an ebay listing. Apparently its a list of all particular make/models MOT'd last year which I suppose is a reliable indicator of how many are left. However I refuse to believe that 345 Peugeot 305s were MOT'd - it just seems far too many. Anyone care to look at the list with a model they're into, to verify the figures?

Actually just noticed it's 2007 but still seems too many; double if you include failures??

There was 1 1984 Ford Cortina that passed its MOT no problems...I assume this was a kit car maybe?57% failure rate for a 1994 Escort. Hope I'm in a position to trade my shite in before the MOT is due.

Maybe there was 1 pug 305 that had to be retested 234 times before it passed?

17 Rover CDV presented for test...... Actually seems to be the Rover badged variant of the 25 Van. And 1 Moskvitch 427.....

No shit Sherlock! It seems more and more these days MOT stations see an early plate, and make it a mission to not pass it.

Last year was the first time I saw a fail sheet for an electronic MOT, and I've always presented at least two shitters per year. It's all about choosing the right station.

A car can fail an MOT on something trifling like a light bulb though.

Theres a Rover Commerce in my spotted thread, first one Ive ever seen.Seriously 17 sold?

Not all would have been eligible for an MOT in 2007, but I don't think they sold many anyway.

I was looking at this yesterday. It seems more cars fail than they do pass.

UK has the highest MOT failure rate for three year old cars in Europe, no big suprise really given most people these days can't be bothered to do weekly checks, or open the bonnet.

Depends where you go, mine go to a MOT test place only, so they have no vested interest in failing the car to sell parts, or try to get you to cash it in for another one.

That's like my local place. All they sell is tyres, and they aren't even very strict on those.I believe Tiff X1/9 used to work there and he's probably even tested some of my cars.

 If it was anything old or out of the ordinary, the other lads would usually "allow" me to test it!Still can't work out who you are or how you know me though!!

I don't actually know you as such. I know Ian with the SAAB 95 and I told him you were asking for him a while back. I'm sure I must have met you in Motatest though.

What did you bring in? I'm hopeless with names and faces, but remember cars!

Posted

Probably a white 626 (the worst car I have ever driven), a shonky green Mk6 Escort TD estate (the worst car I have ever owned), a grey Renault 19 diesel saloon and a green Renault Savanna diesel in the time you would have been there. Going back a bit further it would have been a succession of sheddy SAAB 900s and a blue Mk3 Fiesta.

The Renaults ring a bell.. especially the Chamade... Didn't it go to Tommy's autos for something?

Posted

Nah, nothing of mine has ever gone to Tommy's.My Savanna failed on rust once and the conversation when I took it back went something like this...Jim- did Dave weld it for you?Me- no, I did it myselfJim- in that case I'd better have a look. Very good, you must have done welding before?Me- no, it's my first tryJim- That's better than some garages, we've sent the same car back three times to a local garage because of substandard weldingMe- which garage?Jim- I couldn't possibly say... (to another tester) look at this, it's his first go at weldingOther tester- that's better than Tommy's Autos, we've sent the same repair back three times today"old fashioned" look from Jim

You just confirmed who I thought you were! I remember Jim talking about that!! :D I worked with Jim in Reekie's when he was service manager... I was in the bodyshop..1992 ish.
