sutty2006 Posted July 17, 2024 Author Posted July 17, 2024 I’ve bitten the bullet and bought a genuine pipe. £184 delivered. Money I can’t afford to spend after launching 400 on pipes etc. but you live and learn. My own fault. so new pipe arrived. And I fitted it this evening. Easy enough job, but I had to get another 10mm nut n olive fitting and cut the brand new pipe up. ouch. But it’s now fitted. Working. And quiet. Next job is to get a nanocom and bleed the system. Minimad5 Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Well done for keeping this on the road. Quite rare now to see a standard example still on the road. 👏 sutty2006 1
sutty2006 Posted August 31, 2024 Author Posted August 31, 2024 Today I have finally achieved replacing the rear trailing arm bushes. Something my MOT man picked up on at mot. The use of a hydraulic press is essential. new bush going in lovely jubbley done both sides. The passenger side level sensor bolt snapped off so had to be drilled out and replaced. and the shockers had had it, due to the poor state of the roads on my way to work (thanks stoke on Trent council) the suspension has been taking a beating. drives perfect again. until next time!!! sutty2006 Posted September 10, 2024 Author Posted September 10, 2024 I went to LRO at the weekend with the response group, the family and the wobbly box. I actually really enjoyed it. Dare I say it, more than the Vauxhall show. Shame, but it is what it is! I went with the intention of having the discovery remapped, as three main tuners were on site all weekend. I ended up having Empire Tuning remap my ecu for a bargain price of £200. Discussions were had with the agent on the stand who I actually knew from years ago! I explained that while towing, I need to be able to maintain 60, as it was dropping to 50 on hills. A stage 2 progressive towing map was installed and I refitted it Sunday before we left for home. The discovery is a completely different drive now, it changes gear better and can maintain 56 on hills without dropping a gear and screaming it’s rusty nuts off. while I was at LRO, the auto jumble was huge, and lots of defender/discovery/series parts on offer, including rear stowage boxes for the D2 in good condition which I’d been after for a while! Even better that the chap selling them was (again) someone I knew! Bargain for £40 the pair! tonight in the dark I took the 6/7 seats out. and removed the bowl fitted the stowage box on right. much better. I’ve tucked the rear seat belt into the pillar to keep it local. the boxes will be so much more useful to keep straps, first aid kit, useful stuff in, instead of seats that don’t get used. sutty2006 Posted October 26, 2024 Author Posted October 26, 2024 More general maintenance done today. Auto box oil and filter change nice n coffee like. removing the pan left this lovely piece of metal if I know origins. no idea what that’s for, but because it works just fine, I’ll pretend I didn’t see it. new vs old filter yummy. all clean fill er up sorted. now to drain the diffs. rear. Ooo that’s clean! Nice. front. Ooo err, that’s not good. I’ve history to say the front diff was brand new a few years before I bought it. And it looked new too. good job it’s got fresh oil in it now. nice useable work shop, but no oil draining facilities. Had to deal with the Tip Nazis to dump all my oil. They really are cunts. With the power steering and ACE system on these do you have to use that green oil or is there an equivalent?

sutty2006 Posted November 12, 2024 Author Posted November 12, 2024 So, there’s never an east month. started to notice occasional air suspension fault popping up on the dash when dropping off the kerb at work. So I had a good mate plug it in with nanocom. No faults. we attempted to calibrate the height, which didn’t work. Sensors are sensing, so maybe a lack of air? Compressor is cutting in and out as normal. How it sits now. I took the filter out for the compressor, which disintegrated on removal. ordered new, and also ordered a new piston ring and seal kit for the compressor. See how that goes. rainagain, rm36house, N Dentressangle and 4 others 6 1
sutty2006 Posted November 13, 2024 Author Posted November 13, 2024 Inlet air temp sensor replaced tonight. Takes about 30 seconds. Infact, it takes longer to get the cover off and make a brew. hopefully the active fault will now go away. Dyslexic Viking, mk2_craig, IronStar and 2 others 5
sutty2006 Posted November 16, 2024 Author Posted November 16, 2024 IAT sensor replaced and that has cured the rad fan being on ALL THE TIME. Old Sensor was reading 120 degrees so probably thought it was always hot. Fault now cleared and live data say 43 degrees at operating temperature. ☑️ now, I replaced that compressor filter last night. I drove to work this morning and when I arrived, the suspension was suspensioning again. Ride height back, extended ride height working. I didn’t bother overhauling the compressor. It’s working as it should now. so this afternoon we recalibrated the height. Now it handles likes it’s on rails again. Westbay, N Dentressangle, rainagain and 9 others 11 1

Minimad5 Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Well done for keeping this on the road, becoming increasingly harder to find a non molested Disco 2 (Hence why i went for a L322). The Td5 even produces a good sound when not restricted. sutty2006 1

sutty2006 Posted November 28, 2024 Author Posted November 28, 2024 I bought some new headlight bulbs in an attempt to blind oncoming traffic*. osram night breaker 200+++++s. It has been noted that the previous bulbs are a different colour between dip and high beam. Which was weird. On removing the old bulbs, they appear to be “Alite 150%+++” bulbs! Ahhh. Lol. got the drivers side in, what a faff. But just check out that difference!! not much is there? Maybe a little. We will see when I go to work tomorrow. rm36house, N Dentressangle and IronStar 3

Not so much in terms of total light output, but tiny changes in the filament geometry will have a disproportionate effect given how precisely designed the optics in vehicle lighting are designed. Ideally you want bulbs without any coloured coatings on as any filter like that is essentially leaving performance on the table... especially given the shape of the distribution curve, the last thing you want to be doing is filtering out yellow! If you can find a good quality OEM spec lamp from the likes of Philips or Osram without all the supposed whizz-bang blue nonsense all over the bulb you may well find it performs better. Osram Night breakers used to be my go to, but definitely went backwards when they started sticking blue bits on them rather than just running the filament a bit hotter at expense of service life. N Dentressangle Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 I sometimes get thoughts of swapping my cobby old 300TDI Disco for a comfy, powerful Disco 2 TD5. Then I read this thread 😉 Saabnut 1
sutty2006 Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Happy new year etc etc. discovery has been battling though the winter without a hitch until Sunday afternoon. I had a meeting down In Birmingham and on my return noticed a grumbling at low speed braking. Turned out to be shot pads. Definitely something amiss on a Sunday afternoon the only sensible option is to go to euro car parts for £15 pads. I needed this back on the road for Monday morning without fail. Monday afternoon after work I picked my lad up from nursery, on arrival I could smell burning brakes. Great. Caliper or hose has failed, no smell or hot brake on Sunday though? ordered new caliper and hose Monday evening and got the wife to collect them today. the brake pipe came apart without fail. Infact, dead easy. new hose and caliper fitted. Wife got back from nursery at 5pm and it was bled up by 10 past. Easiest caliper/hose replacement ever. sutty2006 Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 A few jobs done today. the D2 is notorious for not having any decent towing points. You can buy these bolt on tow points that bolt directly to the chassis. Some cutting is required. and copper grease added for durability. they were painted in 2 pack yellow for visibility reasons. N Dentressangle Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Still a great looking truck. I'm never really tempted by a Disco 3 or 4, mostly because I'd feel a bit of a dick and I'm too tight to pay for all the repairs, but there's still something nice about the 2 despite all its 'issues'. lesapandre 1
sutty2006 Posted May 11 Author Posted May 11 I had been after some new spot lights for the front end. I particularly wanted truck spots with a 5w side light to compliment the original side lights. I got a pair of SIM 9inch spots from a chap that comes to my work for MOTs. top fella. fitting them turned out to be a huge job as the bolts are not accessible without removing the nudge bar. Which the bolts were seized into the captive nuts…. So it got ripped off. a new relay loom was fitted to activate off the main beam feed, instead of the original switch inside. the new lamps were fitted to the nudge bar, and bolts covered in copper grease. then the bar refitted with some longer bolts straight through. quick test, all working. 100w bulbs were fitted to the lamps. Max wattage for the lamps and relay. and the number plate fitted to the protruding bolt threads. Perfect. rainagain, loserone, beko1987 and 10 others 13

beko1987 Posted May 11 Posted May 11 I had a set of cheap led spotlamps fitted to a zx and they were amazing! Too bright infact on b/a roads with tons of road signs everywhere the light bouncing back was blinding 😂 But on a dark quiet night I felt like a rally driver 😂 I'm sure I had a muntjack think twice before darting out over the road too but I could have just got lucky sutty2006 1
I_am_Diesel Posted May 11 Posted May 11 I put LED headlight bulbs in my Defender, making sure the beam was set at the right height. I still kept getting flashed by on coming cars and I had to swap them back to halogens at MoT time. Last year I gave up and put night breakers in. They’re not as good as the LED bulbs but the driving public are much happier. I love your Disco 2, Td 5 is a great engine. You don’t buy a Land Rover to just drive, it’s an involved experience and love/hate sometimes. sutty2006 1
