with the studs out, I can press on with the manifold. These fuckers warp like a politicians morals on polling day, and because they are webbed, they snap the studs off. So the webbing gets removed.Ā

You sir are an incredibly brave man, using easyouts on manifold studs!

Hat duly doffed šŸ™

Should say everyone I know who've tried that trick has  ended up with a broken easyout in a broken stud...🄺

2 out in a row without snapping the easi out is mega. Put the lotto on, your luck is in

This is an old set of easy outs, I much prefer them as I have the snap on set at work. Needless to say I’ve snapped a few of them snap on versions before but these ones are superb šŸ‘Œ

And now the fun bit:

Getting the drill to stay in the hard stud, and not wander off into the soft ališŸ˜•

Good luck šŸ¤ž

Btw any news on what's happened to the original engine yet @sutty2006?

Because I'm a nosy bastard 🤦

Also your original head might have survived??

I’ve been back to the garage. They haven’t pulled it to bits, but are adamant I’d be wasting money if I get them to pull the sump off. Which is probably right. So we are working on when this spare engine is ready to go, they’ll pull it into the workshop and swap it over. Heavy duty torque converter will go in at the same time.Ā
Ā

I genuinely hate drilling into ally heads. So I measured all the holes and put some tape on my drill bits to not drill too deep. Hopefully I haven’t.Ā

Not much achieved today. Removed the rocker cover to inspect its gussets and trinkets. They’re there. Great. Taken note of the injector codes and will be refitting with a new rocker cover but need to order new bolt seals first.Ā

Shame the clean oil didn’t help, as I read more….

What happened? Ā Oil pump failure?

Oils been changed every 5000 miles, but yeah, it’s weird really as the last discovery I had (2.7 tdv6) had very regular oil changes and spun a main bearing totalling itself. I’m going to find out what happened to it, but it will only come to light once i get that engine home.Ā

I’d put money on it being the oil pump bolt wound out. It’s extra graft but I’d really consider dropping the sump on your new engine and loctiting the bast in.

I once bought a 2nd hand sump (to replace the one fitted that some twunt had destroyed the sump plug threads on), luckily I noticed just before I fitted it that it must have come from an engine with a loose oil pump bolt. The bugger had nearly milled its way completely through the front of the sump and had burst cracked what was left!

Yep that’s the plan. I’ve seen silicone around the sump plug so I may end up putting the other sump on it if it’s good enough. Got a gasket and a rear main seal to fit anyway.Ā

Im begining to fucking hate Landrovers. Even more so now i have the misfortune to own one. But, unfortunatly, they tend to make some good looking stuff that just drives really nicely. Much like drugs thats how they get you hooked.

And that @R LutzĀ is an absolute honey.

I should have bought @Split_Pins Range Rover before he bought it, typically the disco was running spot on when it was offered to me. I’ve been tempted to sack the disco off and look for one but there’s hope in the old girl yet.Ā

Touch wood, a very large piece at that, the L322 has been a good car for me. The radio not working any more is annoying but as far as LRs go its trifling. Plus Mrs_Pin and Junior_Pin love it!

Did I dream that you were selling it and are no longer for selling it? My heads fuzzy after the week I’ve had šŸ˜…

I just got peed off with it for a bit and put it up for sale until I calmed down šŸ˜‚

If a reasonably priced and not awful Phaeton or A8 comes up for sale though I could change my mind again...

Ā

now up in the air. Sump off. Jobs to do while sump off - 1 new seal. 2 new rear main seal. 3 check oil pump bolt and reseal. 4 clean and refit sump.Ā
Ā

Ā

rear main was due I thinkĀ

Ā

Ā

jobs left to do after, turbo return pipe is kinked and the inlet air sensor is smashed. I’ll pull these off the replacement engine. I’m not spending anymore on this. If this engine turns out to be nackered I’m going to bridge the lot.Ā

So often with LR stuff it's that lethal combination of a slightly crap / half-arsed design followed up by some ignorant gibbon-style maintenance that fucks them up. Good to see you're working through the new lump before you fit it - makes lots of sense.
