Will be taking her from Leicester to Retford (North Notts) & back again tomorrow, so looking forward to the drive.:lol: No further updates.

Damn, wish I'd known about this earlier - would have kept an eye out.Hope all went well anyway.
Well, when I say Retford, its actually Laneham, about 8 miles S.E. of Retford. Whereabouts are you?For ref., the car drove perfectly, yet again :D

I'm glad the car drove well. Not a bad little trek and you/we had lovely weather of course..I'm actually in Retford town itself, although obviously know Laneham.Cheers

Nope, clutch is untouched. Its not half as bad as I expected to be honest.Actually, as I was driving back this evening, what drove past me going the other way up the A46 - another Maxi! Couldn't believe it!

I was once told that you could get a washing machine in the back of a Smart car...

Are you sure you haven't got that the wrong way round...?

This one, maybe.

I know for a fact I cannot fit even half of the basic equipment I need for work in a Smart, and that is less cumbersome than a washing machine.

(which is actually a bit of a shame)

I once drove round Scotland with a Geordie in the boot of a smart car. There was 3 of us and I thought I was collecting a Merc..The boots are actually quite big!

I was driving to Colchester this afternoon and saw a Maxi laid up in someones driveway, Sadly i couldn't stop as it's a main road with no pavement, The registration was interesting though, NHK ***M, Wasn't the Granada from The Sweeney something like that as well?.

I've found it on google streetview but sadly the google car didn't photo outside the house so this is the best shot.

Also about 1/4 mile down the road is this Capri and 924, Both have been there for years, Again i couldn't stop to get photos.

I think the Sweeney Granada was NHK 296M.Whereabouts in Colchester was this Trigger? My sister lives in Boxted and that house looked familiar....

Posted

NHK 295M actually. The plate on the maxi might be worth a bit to someone making a Sweeney replica, i'm surprised it hasn't been raped yet.

PM sent Parky.I'm sure the plate is a 200 number as well, It's on black and white plates, I'll have to take a drive back down there again now just to find out!, Dam you google streetview car for not driving past the house!

The Maxi is only 2 miles down the road from my house. The reg no is :

NHK 702M

Seems its taxed too.

The Capri and Porsche further down the road have indeed sat there for years.

The Capri is actually a 2.8 i Automatic which must make it pretty rare. I can remember when it was still being driven but that must have been something like 10 to 15 years ago.

The Porsche seems to have been bought as its replacement and from memory is also an Auto. Like the Capri I dont think its been on the road for years.

A Damask '74 HL still survives however, and covered 230,000 miles in the three years that Dad ran it as a company hack)

Unfortunately I think this thread and the car both died a while back. :(
