Bought this on a whim 6 months ago, not expecting much, but I've inexplicably fallen madly in love with it ;D Unfortunately some major, sudden, financial woes mean that I just can't afford to run more than one car, so I'm very bitterly parting with it. Seriously, it's easily the nicest car all-round that I've ever owned, and I'm very reluctant to let it go, but I've no storage space to lay it away in.

B230K engine (2.3 carbed, non-turbo, 5-speed manual) which actually hustles it along quite nicely, not that it's the car for throwing around corners ;) If you want proper power, drop in a small-block Chevy for instant funtimes - the suspension & running gear's plenty strong enough as is. Incredibly smooth and plush for its age, perfect long-distance cruiser, although like all old Volvos it has a slight drinking problem, so it might not be the best urban commuter choice.

Bodywork is very straight indeed, only a couple of tiny dings that you'd have to look closely to find. Some rust at the front of the rear arches (see pics for worst side), plus a small patch on the front passenger door, all rock solid though. The bonnet could probably do with fresh paint, as there's a couple of deep gouges, plus a badly touched-up area that's far from smooth; there's also a couple of bits of paint damage on the wings (I'll stick pics up later). There's some bubbles on the sunroof, and on the roof just in front of it - I can throw in a spare sunroof if wanted.

Interior is all black, heated leather seats, electric front windows and mirrors, everything still works :) Suffering from the infamous 700 series' headlining issue - it's far beyond salvage and needs properly replacing. I've never tried, as there's a tricky recess above the rear seats, although plastic head linings from 900s will fit straight in with no alignment issues (apparently). The seats could do with some leather-treatment, although there's no actual tears or punctures in them. Carpets and dash are mint. There's water coming into the side recesses of the boot, probably from the light cluster seals, it's not a huge leak though.

Engine is totally smooth and reliable, I've never had any problems whatsoever. The idle was slightly low & lumpy when I first got it; it turned out the carb was full of gunk, after a good clean it was fine. The emissions results from the last MOT are quite impressive ;) There's a very slooow leak of clutch fluid, which despite my best efforts I've never been able to find the source of, although I've been told it's probably from the top of the master cylinder - I just top it up once a month & it's fine. The front pads will probably be due for replacement soon.

And that's it. Any more info wanted, let me know.

Anyone?? I'm really not that bothered about price, feel free to make a derisory offer. I'd much rather someone appreciative took it, than having to deal with the mouth-breathing general public. I might even be persuaded to swap it for something small & quirky...

How small ?I have a fat younger brother who is quite "quirky", and small from certain angles.Deal or No Deal ?

I know I may regret this but where abouts are you?

I'm guessing he is from the sunny land of Wales !If you go to have a look / purchase the Ovlov, make it into a mini AS adventure, pick a certain hitchhiker up "WINK" ... An take a load of pictures.I wish you good luck

Bollocks! I was in Caernarvon last week. I could of slung it on the back of the truck via a friendly garage owner with an external two post ramp, and yes, I have moved shite about that way before! Risky but free.

I remember a mate of mine had one of these for sale, same year but in white and with a smashed rear window. I took it for a spin and fell in love. Lovely motors! By the time Id gone and got the money and returned (£40) the total spaz had gone and sold it to someone else. I was really upset.Im really not in the market for anything at the moment but I can assure whoever buys this motor wont regret it. These only Volvos have a great habit of PISSING MOT's. None of this Ford 5 page of fail malarky.

Aye, about 7 miles out of Bangor. It's just possible I might be able to meet someone part-way, this side of the border...

G'wan, g'wan g'wan, g'waaaaan. You can pretend you're an ageing sales director in the mid-1980s. Or an antique dealer in the 90s. Or just spend your weekends dragging decrepit caravans up and down the country, just to annoy other motorists.

The obvious question is what is the least money a fellow shiter can turn up with and drive away?I thought it would have fuel injection being a GLE?

Posted

Tis definitely on a carb, it's the same engine as the 240. I think the GLE just denoted the trim spec? Could be completely wrong.

I'd really like £200 for it, absolute minimum. I know for a fact it'll pass the MOT in August, and it's still on a fairly low mileage by Volvo standards. If everything went pear-shaped, you could weigh in the shell and flog some parts to make more than that back, I would've thought.

I am giving it some serious thought! More for cheap transport than anything else. New shite isn't playing ball with my tame MOT tester.

OK, not only will I be throwing in the near-mint original dealership pack (telling you where all the best garages were in 1985, and illustrating just how environmentally friendly an executive barge is), and the relevant Haynes, but I shall also provide THIS:

Use it to test out bad-azz modifying techniques, before doing them for real!

Stick it to your dashboard and never again agonise over whether your car is the right shape for that parking space!

Use it as a bonnet mascot and watch passers-by become slowly hypnotised by the fractal madness!

This unlimited-edition precision diecast model will NOT be available through any other website forum ad!!! (mainly because most people would be put off)

PS it is actually blue-grey, not metal-flake flesh colour. I cba getting my camera to actually do colours properly.
