Dick Cheeseburger Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I remember reading about this car a few years back but don't recall a thread on here. Take a brand new 1957 Plymouth Belevdere, and offer it as the prize for a competion. The only catch is that it's going to be stuck underground in a time capsule for 50 years... Fascinating reading, and good to see it's finally found a home. I'd quite like to have a look around the place at some point. anonymous user Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 I think a similar thing has been done a few years ago with a Plymouth Prowler, only this time it has been walled up above ground.
MiniMinorMk3 Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 The car was dug up by Boyd Coddington. I think it featured in one of the episodes of the Discovery TV show American Hot Rodder. Here's a series of vids from the Youtube showing the unveiling of the car back in 2007. Banger Kenny and Dick Cheeseburger 2
somewhatfoolish Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Wasn't it completely fucked due to the water table?
Matty Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Fascinating like, but what the fuck where they thinking? "You've won a lifetimes supply of pies but you can't eat them till they've gone off". Bloody yanks, spoiling life one crap idea at a time 😄 Dan_ZTT, DavidB, PicantoJon and 2 others 5
danthecapriman Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Great story. Great car! It’s a shame the (inevitable!) water leak got into the capsule and that happened but it’s still a fantastic car and well worthy of a place in a museum where it can now be preserved and seen. I would most definitely take Miss Belvedere out on a date!😁

The derusting has made it look like a car again and although it's now little more than an fragile ornament, it's an eye-catching one with a cracking backstory. It's way more interesting than your average museum piece. danthecapriman, MiniMinorMk3, Banger Kenny and 1 other 4
artdjones Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 It doesn't look any worse than the average 2003 car in Northern Scotland. danthecapriman, RichardK, dome and 3 others 6

I was going to say, despite its rust problems, there’s probably still more metal on that car than most modern cars leave the factory with! tooSavvy 1

Over on Utoob.... Guy bought a sound bottom 4dr and welded a totally dissolved Coupe top on.... Same car [he explained the tags & flanges as they made both 4dr and coupes to order] and spotwelded different 'tops' on. @.. coldwarmotors Cool 😎👌 CreepingJesus and danthecapriman 2
