FredTransit Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Has anybody got one, of the electric variety? Trying to get one for 12 May. I have tried Dairies and the only forum I can fined, but so far nothing!
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 our Milkman had one till a few weeks ago, when some pikey wankers nicked its batteries and torched it.
Station Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Always see a stream of these about 1am as the diary is just round the corner from me. Seem to be well kept/maintained though, they're all at least 30 years old, can't imaging many on the market.
HillmanImp Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Cannot recall seeing one in years. I remember when i doing french at secondary school in around 1989 our french teacher said that they did not have milkmen in France, but instead bought their milk from the supermarket. How we chortled.......
Angrydicky Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Have you tried Dairy Crest, Southend depot? They have loads there, most late 1960's, early 1970's, They should be able to spare one for a day.

warren t claim Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 How heavy is a milkfloat? With all those batteries will it exceed the weight limit for a Transit/ 7.5t Cargo recovery unit?
Station Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Fred, I'll give you the number for the dairy near me, all their floats are electric and the type you describe. They're deffo electric as you can only see them when they're 2 metre's in front of you as the lights are terrible!
Justin Case Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Fred, it may be worth contacting these, they may know of something more local: http://www.sytm.co.uk/index.html
FredTransit Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 SYTM was the first place I tried mate. Theirs hasn't held a charge in years!
garethj Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 There's a dairy in St Albans that uses them, I used to see one most mornings as I zipped through. Can't remember the name though, sorry.
Mr H Sceptre Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Kirby and West in Leicester operate a fairly large fleet of electric floats. http://www.kirbyandwest.co.uk/ And some nice photo's of their fleet on someones Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8050359@N07/sets/72157617483575404/
FredTransit Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 I think I have found one, it's in Milton Keynes though so I am waiting for a transport quote.
boobydoo Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 There's a milkfloat that comes up my lane about 5.30 am and I noticed today that the back bit where the milk is, was all lit up with fancy lights like it was trying to be a little brightly-lit shop on wheels.Looked dead good!!
Pillock Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 How heavy is a milkfloat? With all those batteries will it exceed the weight limit for a Transit/ 7.5t Cargo recovery unit? Discharge the batteries first, it'll weigh loads less.
FredTransit Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 I will bear that in mind. Too bad it doesn't come with the charger.....
