say hello to my leetle new daily driver - collection next week.

It is a 1986 Citroen CX 22 TRS with 76k on the clock, very good condition bodywork. OK, it's not a GTi Turbo but has some plus points IMHO:

along with the usual

DIRAV steering

Hydro suspension

it also has:

2.2 lt "douvrin" engine 8v with twin pipe weber carb - this power unit was developed in a joint venture between Renner and PSA and was used in a number of cars - Renner 19-21s for starters - the only citroen to get it (non commercial) was the CX. Douvrin means suitcase.

no cat and a manual means 30-35 mpg with 0-60 in 10 seconds and a top whack of about 116mph but of course - that is not the issue with a CX - the superb suspension means very quick cross country speeds - road holding is phenomenal.

Anyway this baby comes with a years MOT and tax till christmas....nice

n'est pas?

Strictly speaking it should be "ma nouvelle voiture".I was looking at that on the Bay yesterday and lusting after it - glad it's going to a good home. CXs are FTW.

yup - however - it you are going to get one then the 22 TRS is a sensible option - no turbo, no EFI, no aircon, an engine bay you can get your hands in - no tilted engine.provided the suspension and DIRAV are ok and provided the bodywork is OK - as big citroens go this model is a sensible option

Piece of cake And queries about the hydraulics send them my way but they will just work. The only worry with Cxs is rustville. Btw, I know of this one - was Adam the seller? I dunno why he sold it tbh as I thought this one was pretty good. (he has bought a new one that looks pretty shit and he has hat to be recovered while taking it home...)Anyway, good purchase and gr8 for easy cruisin. If you're game, it's a good candidate for LPG too for much cheapness. Also! I wanna hear what you think of the CX!! (coz me writes a wee column in the citroen club mag abouts them)

this will be the 2nd CX I have owned. yes it is Adam's one, body work looks very good - I will get it up to condition 1 and then off to rustmaster at St albans and have them give it the works - should mean it has another 10 years at least before it gets eaten! I had a CX 25 Gti Auto - non turbo Series 2 for a while - loved it but with the 3 speed Auto box it was quick and gutsy - had one or 2 body work issues - sold it to Torsten a couple of years back.Since i have been looking for a carb version with sound bodywork and a decent interior - wasn't too worried about the spec - just happened to go on ebay this morning and there it was with an hour to spend.paid good dollar for it but I think it is a good buy.Adam told me about the Gti Turbo and the bodywork issues - seems resigned to a lot of welding - best of luck to him - I recall that some of the welding is tricky with these things especially the tail gate. I do recall that most panels are avaliable from a company in germany - you pay for em, mind.thanks for the tip though - i'm in edinburgh so if i have any issues I will be on the phone (and i will have issues!)cheersrich

That's a belter, well done. :D I had a CX Athena many moons ago and it was a cracking car. They're very misunderstood cars I reckon. Most folks are paranoid about the suspension and steering but they're a lot simpler than people think. I'd love another one.If you don't already know about him Graham Harper in Glasgow is a good guy when it comes to these.

What a lovely old thing, I can't remember the last time I saw a CX on the road. Good colour too, and the carpet in the boot has to stay!

Oooohh, Foux da Fafa 8)

Cracking buy! I thought it was good, but then I saw the boot carpet. Superb! We should all make more effort to fill our cars with house-carpet cut-offs. We raided a bin (with permission!) outside a carpet shop to treat our H van to an interior freshen up (and for sound deadening purposes...)

Strictly speaking it should be "ma nouvelle voiture".

I stand corrected!! If the adjective describes a transient state i.e the car will not be new for long , it goes before the noun as in "Ma nouvelle voiture".

However if the adjective is permanent it goes after. e.g "La voiture rouge"....the red car . It will always be red.

Not quite sure what happens if you respray it though. :?

Good job the French make lovely cars, cos the language is a minefield of grammatical cummudgery!!!

P.S I quite like boring people and think I have it off to a fine art now.

Zut alors! C'est magnifique. Certainement une belle voiture, n'est pas? 8) I would love to have a Citroen CX the complext mechanics scare me so instead I'll wait for a few years for the C6 to become more affordable. :D

Lovely car!

I had a nice surprise this morning near Send, Surrey, while driving the GSA to work: I met a white LHD CX Safari Mk1 coming the other way!! I couldn't work out what country the number plate was, but we exchanged waves anyway! I reckoned it must have been an early one because it had these wheels:

well, collected in Bath on Tuesday evening and so far have done the following:Bath to TelfordTelford to StaffordStafford to Edinburghon one tank of gas which is pretty good - about 440 miles out of a fill AND that includes driving the A7 last night from Carlisle to Edinburghthe great thing about the CX is how quickly it eats miles on a A road - the suspension allows you to post seriously decent average speeds without going too much over the national speed limit.all seems pretty sound - exhaust may have developed a slight blow could do with a decent clean inside as a wee bit grubbyneews a new stereo - I'll pinch one from one of the other carsneeds new rear tyres (I have a couple of decent ones)I'll change the timing belt (an easy job on the douvrain apparantly)LHM fluid needs doingslight squeak from front right brake but no pad wear on indicator and no advisory on MOT (last week)well chuffed

crikey - 5 dafs 30 miles away including a 55 Coupe! sadly I have nowhere to sore them - if I bought them whee the hell would I keep them??

Bonus points for the dated floral carpet lining the boot! :D
