ProgRocker Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Hello, I don't know if there's an 'introductions' thread or sub-forum so I thought I'd better start this one.I've been lurking on this forum and I have found it quite fascinating. Found my way here from another forum of a classic car based nature. Both forums certainly makes a change from the usual lusting over Astons, Ferraris and Bentleys! Up until Xmas I drove a 1999 SEAT Ibiza 1.4 S - until I stuffed it into another car on an untreated rural lane in the snow. The insurance company took ages to sort my claim out - getting an answer whether to write off or repair, get the car recovered and send me my cheque. Seemed like a waste writing off the car as it was low mileage and despite the damage, it would have provided a few more years use.I'm still without a car but next week I should be picking up a piece of shite - a white 1994 1.8 diesel Escort saloon ex-copper car.I'm sadly unemployed at the mo but got a bit dienchanted by the myrid of low paid jobs stating 'must have own transport due to location' - so getting a replacement car is pretty much a necessity although I have coped well without one.
Cavcraft Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Welcome along. White, ex-OB Escrot diseasel will ensure you fit in I'm sure!
Mr H Sceptre Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Good evening & welcome Sir!The so-called 'Management'
trigger Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Hello!, I had a 1994 Escort 1.8D once, I quite like it.
Milford Cubicle Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I had an Escort 1.8D once, it was woeful! I'm quite glad it blew its headgasket 2 weeks after I bought it while being wilfully mistreated.Aside from dissing your prospective shite... welcome along.
ProgRocker Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Thanks for the welcomes...I'm sure I'll be tapping on your mechanical expertise over the next few months. Here's a pic of my old SEAT which I guess is probably shite with its broken glovebox hinges and non-working instrument lights: VWPowered - Hi, I've been to site of all of the French scrapyards - fascinating!
Mr Lobster Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Hello and welcome! Escort D, hmmm, nasty! You should feel perfectly at home here!

ProgRocker Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Escort D, hmmm, nasty! Well, desperate times call for desperate measures. Hopefully putting my Alpine CD player into it and playing some 70s rock will ease the pain! At least with it being a diseasel it should prevent me from breaking the speed limit. I'll turn it in for something else once I start earning again.Nice to see another Naaaarwich blokey on here!Yay!

ProgRocker Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 Prog Rock - yay!!! I like most music to be honest. Even like the Carpenters. Currently listening to The Who on my antiquated Hi Fi CD player. Anyhoo - I've been driving for 15 years. Here are my previous shite cars, bought from age 17 to 24 (before buying the then 3 year old SEAT): 1979 Austin Morris Mini: build by communists - driven by peasants. 1986 Escort 1.4 GL - had the optional ABS 1990 Fiat Tempra 1.4 - Italian but no stallion. No PAS either. Sadly the Fiat ended up coming off worse when rear-ending an F-reg Polo. 1990 Rover Mini Racing Green. Great fun - Much more reliable than the '79 Mini but felt I needed greater comfort and safety so I bought the SEAT.
