I have a designer looking for one of these for a fashion shoot. Never seen one in my life before. Any ideas anybody?

Is that a Mercedes 600?? Or a 300?

Looks like a coachbuilt landaulette...

Either way I would guess you have more chance of finding a rocking horse poo containing hens teeth.

Can you not sway them into something more like a 250SE convertible from the same era... much easier to find, in fact you could probably daily -rent one from one fo those classic hire places...

600 Landau? Rare as rocking horse shit and fetch crazy money. Usually the preserve of crackpot dictators like Amin and the odd Arab.

When I finished heaving, and got back to the merc, I kinda figured it was rarer than a rare thing on the 31 February. When they first contacted me, I got the impression they wanted American (they mentioned Presidential Limo) so any thoughts on an alternative?

I think the Pope still has one and a certain Mr Clarkson has a hard-top one, a few minutes with an angle grinder could sort that out though.

I am sure Jeremy would be up for that!

I have asked them if they would consider an alternative as I don't think I have a snowball's chance of getting the Landau......

Is it not a Mercedes 600 Grosser ?

Thought Grosser had a full roof no?

Its a Mercedes 600 Pullman Landaulet.

Its very rare as less than 100 were built, and I can't imagine any potential customers when new in the UK, as the Queen already had R-Rs and Daimlers for parades etc.

('Grosser' is just a term applied to all of these, it wasn't offical Mercedes terminology for this car (the W100, made from 63 to 81))

If you could get a large black or very dark blue convertible, possibly a Merc like the one Pog pictures, or a 1950s/60s American model. Alternatively a 1960s Alvis?

A 1961 Lincoln Continental is what Kennedy got shot in. I think Truman and Eisenhower had Chrysler Imperials.

Kennedy's limo got rebuilt with a transparent plastic bubble top and still exists, in the Ford musuem in Dearborn. After that, it was strictly closed limos only.

I would approach the 'pre 50 American Auto Club or similar for this sort of thing.

Free teabag in the post to anyone who can remember which 80s American soap character had a Merc 600 Grosser in black as her daily "runabout". (Aswell as a Merc SL!)

Blimey, not seen that for ...must be quarter of a century!! Brings back great memories of my days at uni ..think it was on either a Monday or Thursday night.Being set in a vineyard, they would sometimes refer to a "Cabernet Sauvignon" or "Merlot" which always sounded very sophisticated compared to a bottle of "Blue Nun" or "Black Tower" which was what we Brits supped at the time!!

Never heard of Falcon Crest, but was pleasantly surprised to see Lorenzo 'Renegade' Lamas was in it!

I'm sure there's few Daimler DS 420's about with the open bit at the back.
