Couple of responses on the American thread

Why mess up a good thing. The powertrain is bulletproof and the ride is comfortable without being nauseating. Had this 36,000 mile '92 a few years back. Couldn't imagine changing a thing.

I also asked about possibly tweaking performance and making it sound a bit more antisocial and got this response below.

No 3800 will ever sound good while being louder than stock. The best sounding muffs I found for them were actually the stock mufflers. Cut out the catalytic converter and resonator if it has one, increase pipe size from 2.25 to 3” from the downpipe back to the stock Y (if it’s dual exhaust) or to the single muffler if it’s only one. It’ll be louder but not obnoxious. 

The only other muffler that I thought sounded decent behind a 3800 was a Dynomax Super Turbo. Really pulling from the memory banks here lol. I ran stock dual mufflers on the 513whp dyno pull and did an 11.37 in the 1/4 with them. I had a few other setups and nothing beat the stockers for sound and performance.

That’s just over  double my perceived value. 
 

I am aware they are in the mark it up business. 
 

So a bit of legwork, bit of luck and a sprinkling of elbow grease would see me have a set for £150.00 max. 
 

Right now I’m still favouring steels but finding some with a better design would help.

Absolutely. 
 

My neighbor threw out a set of 80’s Benz AMG rims plus a BMW rim a few years ago. 
i listed them for £50 or something like that, my buddy Darren messaged and said £600 worth all day. 
 

Same day he sold them for £550 or some mystery price. 
 

I just need to keep looking for the £50 ad or free to collect 30 miles away.

Yesterday I bought a 1991 Oldsmobile 88 with 180k miles or 290k km over Facebook Messenger text and concluded the deal on the phone via WhatsApp. 

 

Collection on 28 December is 260 miles or 420km from here. 

 

Long story. 

Craig is dropping his wife at Heathrow 3.00pm on 27th December. 

I will take a train from Rochester to London and then to Heathrow and meet him at International Departures. 

Ride back to his home (40 miles from Mold) and sleep over at his home. 

He will hopefully take me there on Sunday morning (TBC) . 

We collect the car drive 40 miles to Craigs. 

Then I drive back home 205 miles or 330km on Monday, so effectively a mini road trip from Northern Wales. 

 

Perfectly sane behaviour for me. 

 

Wish me luck.

 

Obviously I will post something on my YouTube channel “Riangrizz” for those who enjoy Car Crash Television.

I live over at St Mary Hoo, Rochester, Kent. 
I may be barking up the wrong tree here but I don’t mind barking if a nun falls out of said tree. 
So my question is this…… Being the keen eyed photographer you may be, do you possibly have or use a drone to photograph ? 
Reason: I am collecting a 35 year old American car from North Wales on the 29th and driving it back the following day or so . 
I have my infant and random YouTube channel “Riangrizz” and want create a mini road trip video about collecting the car.  
What would be awesome, is to have some drone type footage of the car driving along any road, edited into the introduction video.

A 30 miles away friend just discovered this diesel heater in his workshop. 

Looks like I may be able to work and even paint on this car if it gets home. 

Facebook brought up a memory from 18 years ago. Different time, same shit. Me, cleaning up stuff. Those were alloys I was painting for my rare 1979 Audi 80 GLS Estate. It now lives in a German museum.

Been a busy day. 

 

Registered the new to me, 35 year old car for Dartford crossing toll fees 

Added it onto my Astro vans insurance till August ‘26 for £72.00

Added to Green Flag roadside recovery till February for £15.00 

 

So pro-rated payments till renewal 

 

I had asked Steve the seller to use the car this week as a daily. 

 

So at about 14.00 I got a photo from him and a few texts exchanged a bit later. 

 

Great minds think alike as you will see on the time stamps. 

 

So by that time hr had already done over 200 miles. 

 

Looking forward to seeing and collecting it in two weeks time.

I film and edit ONLY on two iPhones.

My regular phone is an iPhone 8

For filmmaking and editing I mostly use a 12 ProMax.

My high level shots are made off a stepladder or ductape the phone on a 15 foot stick.

I am wanting to make this 100% forgettable car a bit more interesting and some drone shots around England could be interesting of entertaining…. Hey !!! Even educational.

As someone who's had at least three similar American shopping trolleys: I agree!  Regular readers will remember my white 1993 Mercury Sable from a decade ago (already????) but before that - before Cyprus - I had a 1991 Chevy Lumina sedan which is basically the same car as the Olds, and before that a 1990 Chrysler leBaron convertible.  I've even had the 3.8 V6, in my RWD 1980 Buick Century, which was a slightly bigger model.

The "domestic" FWD cars are not much loved, yet; the market over there is pretty conservative in its tastes and RWD is (rightly) still king.  Grab 'em while you can, because they're almost as good as their older relatives.

The way I looked at it is that daft front 1/4 light glass and side profile. 
 

I think this thing will look great with a silly paint job and maybe some interesting wheels.
