Because I'm bored and want something big, silly, wafty, automatic with working AC and cruise. To autoshitists, it's what I paid for it (and I taxed it) £850.

If you were 400 miles further south, I'd swop you for a really nice Omega 2.5 CDX estate............

Pah. At this rate I'm just gonna save up and build my ideal P5B Coupé.

No thanks. It might well be a really nice car, but the negative connotations of owning a BMW would far outweigh any positive aspects of the car's character based on my brief experience of driving one. If you spend most of your motoring life on two wheels as I do you come to see a BMW as a hazard to be negotiated rather than anything else, as 99% of them are driven by narcissistic, homicidal morons.

My cousin had a 525ix estate a little while ago, and when I was between cars I briefly considered buying it from him. For sure it was ugly, thirsty and likely to bankrupt me at its first MOT, but hey this is Autoshite, right? Anyway I took it out for a test run and I found that no aspect of the car's character rose above the fact that all the other occupants of the Queen's Highway hated me with a vengeance. They wouldn't let me out of side roads, they cut me up and made rude gestures at me. Who could be bothered with that?

Yeah, I've stopped letting newer BMWs/Audis out now on principle. It means I'm just as big a prick as them, but fff. I still like BMW's though, I nearly swapped one a couple of weeks ago. It's a shame to let that aspect ruin buying a decent car!

Audi, Merc and Beemer drivers are cnuts and I treat them as such, I also own a few of each and I readily admit to being a total cnut myself. To get back to the thread though, I'd be tempted but changing gear manually is such a chore!

Not all Audi drivers are cnuts !My old man is an Audi A4 (B5 shape) driver and is infact not a cnut.Thank You Please

I drive my BMW exceptionally courteously, for just this reason. I also find [somewhat bizarrely] that people automatically assume that I am "doing well" and "must know my shit[paraphrased]", because I choose to hink about in a £500 bmw. I bet that if I rolled up a £500 Hyundai they would think I was taking the piss. I don't understand it myself, I drive them because I like them, but the great unwashed really do still have them in some kind of esteem. :?::roll::lol:

Point taken. I would probably just as happily tool about in a Hyundai Accent. And it would probably cost me less and do me more, I would have no qualms about throwing muddy boots in the back of a Hyundai, but in the car they get double-wrapped. I mean if you saw the state of my van which is worth 6 times what the BMW is worth....Case in point, I recently had an architect from a firm I do jobs for visit me at home, as I might have a circa £40,000 extension built, he commented on the fact that despite the 'crunch', which has hit his sector and therefore mine very hard, I have a jazzy BMW on the drive and he is driving a fiesta. Case point 2: Chap who works for me, used to be my boss until he 'officially' retired, always points out that 'them BMW's cost the earth to run'. O RLY, bet it's less than the Vauxhalls he's sworn by since 1966.

I drive mine very courteously unless someone treats me like a cunt, and then I show them how a proper cunt would drive ;)

See your point GVM and it's very easy to judge the majority of BMW owners. Having said that I reckon it's easy to judge they're all twerps and think they're great because they own one but some of it is based on assumptions, the assumptions that they are all bad when some of them aren't.The telltale sign for me is when someone can't wait to tell you they have a BM, because even if it's some rusty, smokey old E30 they think it makes them God and you instantly know they're not worth talking to.

In 13 years of driving BMW's, I have never had any anti BMW road rage. I get let out of junctions and treated like anyone else, even in new ones. I've rarely driven like a twat, and I can't recall the last time I saw another BMW driver acting the arse either. Same with Audis - they're no better or worse than anyone else.Worst drivers are spotty little scratters in Paxos/Corsets/Festers/Pugs and rubbish like that. Golf IV owners can be scrotes as well. You can tell them by the lowering springs and 17 inch Audi rimz.

I'd disagree there slightly. I think the Fiasco/Punto/Corsa are only really a pain in shopping centre car parks and town centres at night times where it certainly does appear a huge amount of German car drivers are just winkers 99% of the time.If I made a 150 mile round trip on the motorway it's a given that at least 90%+ of the people who tailgate and drive like idiots are German car drivers, and mostly in either BMWs or Audis.Doesn't mean all German car owners/drivers are the same of course but it's easy to see why people think they're all idiots.

I don't get tailgated, nor do I tailgate. There again I'm usually in a slipstream of Kraut metal and yes, you do get dorks pulling into the fast lane in Kia Rios and other scrap when a look in the rear view mirror would tell them 'no, not just yet, wait till he's gone past'. They get the derision they deserve for being so fucking stupid, and they're the kind of wankers who moan about 'bloody BMW/Audi drivers'. If you can't stand the heat, don't stray into the fast lane and become a sodding nuisance. Simples.

It's not a 'fast' lane, its a lane, used for overtaking. Not for barrelling along in.....Its that kind of attitude that gives the BM/AUDI crew the reputation its got

Never mind Poppit, ignore the nasty man. It's lack of lane discipline that gets feckless lane drifting dickheads a bad reputation...... :D

it isn't a fast lane and owning a BMW doesn't give YOU a right to be there!Sorry, but in this instance you have just proved yourself to be a typical BMW driver.

More po faced nonsense. Picture the scene, if your imagination will allow. You're driving along the outside lane of the M1 doing (say) 90 which is a nice speed in a decent modern car. A Fool doing 70 mph pulls out in front of you causing you to brake sharply.Who is in the wrong? You, or the berk who pulled out without checking in their mirrors? Think carefully, take your time.

If I am already in the fast lane doing around the national speed limit, I do not expect to have an executive car catch up to me at 120+ , flashing their lights etc. I will deliberately slow up to match the speed of the car I am overtaking, and if they continue to be a twat, I will happily step on the brakes. And I mean STEP on them. Fucking idiots who think they own the road. I'd understand if I was dawdling and there was space to pull over, but if I am in the process of a LEGAL overtake, at a LEGAL speed, then Mr BMW/Audi etc can fuck right off.
Posted

I agree with Panda on this one, perhaps not to that extent however, but 90=3points. A modern car may be capable of doing that speed easily, it still doesn't make it legal. If you're prepared to travel at that speed, then you should be anticipating the flow of traffic ahead of you.

Jay-Zus!! Talk about dangerous!!! Next time you're on the road, keep your wits about you - all 50% of them. So you step on the brakes, the car behind collides with you, one or both go out of control and cause a pile up. Nice work, you must be so proud. The correct answer would be: if you see a car coming up behind you at 120 mph, get out of the sodding way in plenty of time*. You are not the moral guardian of the UK's roads or it's users. If they want to do 120 mph, let them get on with it. Not your problem, or mine.*That's what I do because I drive responsibly and do not wish to be involved in road rage altercations. You should try it.

Who's the dangerous one? The one doing a legal overtake, or the one not leaving enough stopping distance in case the car in front HAS to brake suddenly? If you can't stop in time if I do an emergency stop - you are too close. End of.

You are you tool!If you used your bloody mirrors, you would see a car doing 120 mph in the outside lane. You would let them whizz past to whatever fate awaits them, THEN pull out. That's what I would do, because it's not a race. As I don't have some kind of sad penis envy regarding better/faster cars than mine, I couldn't care less about letting a faster car go past.If you didn't see them, you're just careless. If you did see them and pulled out anyway, you're just asking for trouble.
