Still got the 4i, though i'm going to have to make a bit more effort to sell it now! I got offered a similar one to this but it was a bit of a lash up. This has 65K on it and everything is lovely :)

GR8 4 BEING VICSMITH

I really rate the 1.6, it's a rewarding drive with a slick gearchange. Looks excellent!!

You`ll have to put about 50,000 extra miles on it if you want to be me. That looks superb, great colour, wheels, everything. Bet it drives lovely with that kind of mileage. Pretty sure the LS became the Laser, the only real diffence will be the box, which if the 1979 LS I drove was anything to go by, makes up for it`s lack of a 5th gear by having a nicer, slicker change.

Very nice, and not a Laser shocker!, I had my eye on that brown Mk 2 1600 GL i posted earlier for £1500, That was a bargain, especially as under it was another exactly the same for £6500!

That looks bloody cool on those steels. Very understated.

Doesn't the Fiesta S have similar wheels or did I dream that?

That looks like a good buy. Nice that it's an LS as well.Mk3 Capri is on the list of cars I need to own at some point.

Excellent purchase. My grandad had a green A reg 2.0 Laser, A959 LJO ... I loved that car and was sad when he sold it in the early 90s and bought a Volvo 440.Mk3 Capri is also on my list of "must own" cars but I can't see it happening as my other half really doesn't like em... That goes for the Triumph TR7 too.Mark.

My wife hates Capris! Won't stop me mind! I taxed it today, ready for collecting it Friday and giving it a nice shakedown run home :)

Yes, some Mk3 Escorts had them too. Unless I dreamt both those things!Be interested to hear more about this when it`s home.

Same wheels on my 84 Escort albeit not as wide...(and mine should have full wheel covers on)

It was the later Fiesta S that had those wheels and they had a red coloured band in them.

Well, I picked it up Friday night with the help of RatDat tat express, and drove it home. It drives really nicely, the gearchange is super slick, and the 1600 pig iron lump goes suprisingly ok.However! An old woman decided yesterday, 15 hours into my ownership, to drive into the front wing on a roundabout! Fuggin nora, thats a reckord fail even for me! Anyway, her insurance have rung and she has admitted liability, so they want to get the Capri fixed, and this is where my problem lies... it's going to want a new passenger side wing (weld on), bumper corner, bumper, bracket, headlight surround, and then all painting up. With the unavailability of the parts, I assume it will get written off, pretty annoying as you can imagine! Also, i imagine if they can miraculously get the bits, the paint match on a 28 year old metallic will be a crock o shite. I can see me having a load of trouble here now, i paid a fair bit for it as it's a nice example (£1400) and I am not wanting to lose out. I assume the insurance co will just see it as an old banger and offer me a pittance, what can i do?! Owners club valuation?Any help desperately required please!!Thanks,Mike :)

Gawd, that's terrible! Bloomin' old lady. To be honest, you're going to have to fight hard but at the end of the day, you want your car back to how it was. I'd be tempted to get some quotes yourself as you may find someone who can do it for not a lot of cash.I did this when my 2CV got walloped (classic insurance tends to be a lot more flexible) and my insurance company told me that'd be fine. It was.

Posted

If it gets written off and I get a decent payout / get to keep the car i'll fix it myself, obv though this is dependant entirely on what I get offered!

Posted

Well, yes. That's the other thing. Fight hard for the offer too. Despite insuring the Moggy traveller for £2k (because that's what the previous owner paid for it some years back) I hadn't actually had time to complete the agreed value paperwork before it was destroyed. As they state that they will pay market value until they receive the paperwork, I was able to find evidence to support a higher payout and ended up with £3500.

Posted

No experience of this, but if she has admitted liability, and you want the car repairing rather than writing off, then you can demand it is repaired. Is this not the case?

Posted

What a pain in the ass....However, as long as you can get the right amount of money for it then it should be no issue getting it repaired. You can source parts yourself and obviously good 2nd hand ones will be fine. And any good car paintshop will be able to match the colour with no problems and they will just blend it into the door (make sure they remove any door trim). Just make sure it is a decent paintshop.

p.s - post up some pics of the damage - will it defo need a wing?

Posted

Shit! Gutted for you :( You should eb able to sort the insurance out so you either keep the car or get it repaired though. Might be a bit of hassle but should be possible.

I shall dust off my camera and take a pic, it has mullered the front edge of the wing, i wouldnt think it'd repair bwithout removing it, and it's welded on..
