Dyslexic Viking Posted September 12, 2022 Author Posted September 12, 2022 This is interesting didn't know Mercedes did this on newer models. I planned to use Dynamat Extreme as I have good experience with this, it costs a bit but is worth it in my opinion. I will also investigate whether there is more I can use in addition as I want to make the car as quiet as possible. The biggest thing is to dampen the noise of the engine, which is probably a bit difficult. But will see what is possible. Shite Ron, juular and Nullzwei 3

It is worth at least 2,500 pounds if I were to guess based on today's price level. And who banger races one of these now, even as parts they are worth a bit not to mention how old they are and they deserve better. If it hasn't been stolen, I hope someone can save it.
Dyslexic Viking Posted September 15, 2022 Author Posted September 15, 2022 I got the glow plugs working today but I don't know how. I measured in the engine compartment and there was no voltage to the glow plugs so I chose to change back to the old glow light which I thought was defective to test, but it turns out when I connected it up it works. So then I lit the glow plugs for 20 seconds and started the engine and it started much easier than before so it is clear that the glow plugs are working now. So then this is fixed but have no idea what was originally wrong. I also had a look at the clutch as the pedal does not go all the way out after being pushed down and has to be pulled up. It's like this down at the gearbox too, so I don't know if there's something wrong with the cluth hydraulics or with the cluth itself? The Cluth fluid reservoir was empty so I have refilled without improvement. Need some advice on this. And during light testing, the turn signal relay died, so it also has to be replaced now. And while checking the fuses, I found that 2 8A fuses had been replaced with 16A fuses and 1 8A fuse had been replaced with a 40A fuse. So glad I discovered this. So this is what happened to the car today. Yoss, artdjones, Nullzwei and 9 others 12

Did this today and the clutch now seems to work properly! Didn't think it could be something so simple. And changed the cluth fluid too and the old one didn't look so good. I also changed 2 ball joints and now know which ones fit this car, so have to change the rest as well. And started the engine again today and after 25 seconds with the glow plugs on, it started instantly, so I can say it's fixed now. But I have an injector that is leaking now have to investigate that. Dyslexic Viking Posted September 20, 2022 Author Posted September 20, 2022 Got a bit done on this today too. Got oil topped up on the main fuel pump and as I suspected, it lacked oil. Then I looked at the large oil leak at the front of the engine. And this one is weird, oil runs out of this hole while the engine is running. And after cleaning it looks like this. The round part does not appear to be part of the timing cover but the hole in it has m6 threads. So could it be that there has been a bolt here that may have fallen out? I've tried to screw in a bolt here but only get it in about 5mm and I'm afraid to screw in something that might be too long as the timing chain lives there so I'm afraid a bolt will hit something. But I have cut a bolt to a short length that I can screw all the way in so should just fit it and see what happens? I have also bought a turn signal relay, the new ones that a Mercedes specialist sells are made of plastic, but I found this below which is a nos part so I bought it. Let's just hope I get it quickly as I want to drive the car before it has to be parked before the winter. CreepingJesus, danthecapriman, loserone and 21 others 24

Was it for some sort of sensor, oil temperature possibly or even a pressure relief valve? I'd fit a short bolt with an O ring in it for the time being, then start gooogggleee ing.

But I have bought a downloadable manual for this engine from ebay but the seller is slow to send it. And I've put in a short bolt now, didn't think of an oring so used a copper washer instead along with Loctite on the threads. And is strange as I could never fully tighten the bolt. So this scares me a bit so I would have liked to have some information about what should be in that hole. CreepingJesus, Popsicle, Saabnut and 1 other 4
Dyslexic Viking Posted September 21, 2022 Author Posted September 21, 2022 I cleaned the seats and interior parts that are in the garage and inside the car today and it was time for a cleaning. These washcloths were clean before I started. And the seats got a little cleaner. And on the backside of this shelf between the front seats I made a discovery. There a note with the text Gardemoe and the date 25/5 94, so 1994 and k 100 which must be kroner 100 so price. So this was for sale in 1994 and does not belong to this car from new. And don't know what is meant by Grademoe, but it almost like the name of a Norwegian place name. So I am convinced by several things that, among other things, the seats come from another car. Will make another post now where I go into this. AnnoyingPentium, Popsicle, Dave_Q and 3 others 6
Dyslexic Viking Posted September 21, 2022 Author Posted September 21, 2022 This car is registered for 6 people and since it has a column gear change, I am convinced that it had a bench seat in the front when it was new. And it would be logical since this started life as a taxi, you would want to have space to as many passengers as possible. But where do the seats come from? I think they come from a W111 the more expensive and 6 cyl petrol version of these. And there is one of these for sale here in Norway now and it has exactly the same seats. Pictures of this below. Below are my seats. I also think that the rims and hubcaps on mine come from a W111 as mine was originally supposed to have 13 inch wheels but now has 14 inch. Below are the wheels of the W111 for sale. And these are mine which are identical except that they are not painted in the middle. But my spare wheel is the original wheel for this, which is 13 inches and has an attachment ring for a small hubcap in the middle. So what I think has happened is that after years as a taxi the original seats for this were worn out and they were replaced with seats and wheels from a scrapped W111. But what did the original seats for this one look like? I am so lucky that a other W110 with most likely the same interior as mine had is for sale in Norway now and here are pictures of it. And the back seat has no armrest If I could afford it, I would have bought this one and swapped the seats with mine as I really want a bench seat in mine now. But I keep an eye on ads and maybe one comes up for sale? Joey spud, adw1977, Dave_Q and 13 others 16

Dyslexic Viking Posted September 21, 2022 Author Posted September 21, 2022 And I think I should mention the spare wheel as this has the oldest tire I have ever had on a car. And I don't know age but would guess at least 50 years old? And it is a studded Sahlins meteor. I wouldn't dare to drive on it or put it on the car so will have to buy a new tire for the spare wheel but will keep this tyre. junkyarddog, Yoss, loserone and 3 others 6

busmansholiday Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Ha,ha, I remember being presented with an EU document to read (before I retired) that was about changes to the way chemicals were to be classified. It was something like 1200 pages, and unlike you, where it's interesting as it's something you want to learn about, this wasn't.
