Don't panic too much about the tax, it says in the leaflet that come with the reminder you get 5 days to display the tax, so although it doesn't mean you never need to tax it, you should get 5 days leniency. Also, if you back date the change of owner there is no reason to fine you!

i was under the impression you only get the 5 days if you have already bought the tax online and its in the system, i have the sort of neighbours that would be only too eager to report me once the tax is out! if i had space on the drive i'd just sorn it but i only have one off road space an the landrover is in it!

I can't believe no one has snapped this up yet, £400 seemed a good price, £200 is a positive bargin!someone step up eh?

Aye, I got £250 for an MoT failure GTE cabrio easily, covered in moss with the classic Vauxhall "transparent sills" feature. £200 for a runner is madness.... the keep-fit windows, 1600 motor and analogue dash are a shame but can't have everything for that money.

well i thought so too, seems no one wants it even if its dead cheap, no one has been to see it or even phoned about it!

Lankytim and joe ....If Lankytim is 100% sure he will buy it i "MAY" be able to put the astra on my drive for afew days. I can't promise anything, but if it helps and aslong as it won't be stuck there for more then afew weeks i don't see any sort of problem.

What a player, hats off to you Mini Mad.

lol thanks Cavette 8)

Saves me seing it in afew months when i go to eat my Tuna and notice a bit of blue Vin plate "ooh look it's joes old Astra"

Surprised it hasn't gone for £200 to be honest.

Even if it needed something drastic like a new engine, you could pick that up for £150 and you got yaself a £350 car.

So whats wrong with this Astra then ?

I seen a mention of breaks and i could be wrong but water pump too.

If it helps (If i do put it on my drive) ... if the buyer buys the parts and drops them off (with a little donation) i will fit the items.

Am i being too kind here ..

You're more than welcome to park it in front of my house in Woodchurch. I had an untaxed, unMOT'd car there for two years and it didn't get touched, it's a closed off area in a cul-de-sac, and it's public parking, but nobody bothers with anything. Nobody parks there tbh.

Ta for that Minimad! Ill fire off a PM to Joe to see what his plan is. Hopefully he wont bale it as soon as the tax runs out, i.e tomorrow.

Minimad an Station, thank you both very much for your kind offers of storage, i am truly grateful :D however ive just taken the car over to my parteners house in Neston which is where it can stay until sold! ( alot of moaning about scraping such a nice car won me some sympathy!)

I give it 6 months. Actually the Audi is off the road again at the end of march for a "bit" of bodywork and an MOT so there will be need for another set of wheels, this is where the Astra fits in. This is the story im telling the missus anyway.Ive been checking out parts prices and these old Vauxhalls are still very much in the banger category with many suppliers trying to clear out their old Vauxhall parts at givaway prices. Ive already spotted a new waterpump for £3.50 on ebay. I may hold out for a "top quality" one at £5 though. There arn't many of these about anymore, infact its rare to see any MK2 astra on he roads and they have even dissapeared from scrap yards. The Mk2 astra convertibles that are left all seem to be chavved up a bit by the big bore brigade. The plan is to keep this one as standard as possible and improve it. Should be fun!

Nice one Tim, like you say a rare sight now and worth saving. Have you ordered the neons and Runcorn Bridge boot spoiler for it yet? :D

I'm glad you bought this as I was getting the money to do the same (even though I couldn't afford it). I wish someone would buy that crappy Charade on RR now, as I'm trying to get money for that. I don't need either!

Posted

Top work squire. I must admit, I was a little bit tempted so let me know when you've fettled it into health Tim - I'll probably be bored of the Renner by then knowing me!

Posted

I was tempted as well, purely because I know theres a few quid to be made in selling it on! But too skint at the mo to invest even the trifling sum you were after. Glad its been saved from the jaws of the crusher.

Just to clear this up, yes you are right, but speaking to my friendly Environmental bloke if it was on the road within those 5 days the council would not bother. it's the pikeis you have to worry about.

I know somebody who got ticketed just after midnight on the night his tax ran out, and that was about 20 years ago- long before the road tax witch hunts.
