I vote you head out to Mold in the middle of the night and strip every fucking thing of that abandoned XR2 that has been sitting on an dissused forecourt for 10 years.

Warren that is just plain old silly haha. - (About the Mk2 Boot)And if i could get my hands on any parts i would be super happy. And i don't fancy messing with the timing to be honest Pete as it seems to tick over wonderfully !(How i don't know as the air filter was as black as a black thing)I do want to whip the head off when i have the money for a new headgasket and rocker gasket, as when it was cold it "POPPED" a core plug. This was due to the lady not putting antifreeze in the car and during the cold spell she tried to strart it and POP ... GUSH.She had a mechanic do some work on it and all it needed was new core plugs (So i heard). But i don't want to take any chances and want to check the valve seats and everything.

Core plugs are a nightmare to change. Someone told me once to buy a smaller one and hammer it into the old one.Somebody must have a pic of that XR2 on here somewhere. It's a local landmark!

Posted

Yeah that black one ?And if i could contact the owner i would kindly ask them if i could have parts from it.Anyone who owns it ?

I really, really wouldn't be bothered whipping the head off just to have a look. If it's running fine then run it until it isn't, then if its serious, swap the head for a CFi 1.1 job. It's a few hours work. Pushrod engines rocketh mightily when it comes to this.Personally, I'd be thrashing it like a red headed step-child, setting the tappets every couple of months and enjoying the thing. If it goes pop it's easy and cheap to sort.

On a 1.1 Fizzy? You jest, Shirley? They're a piece of piss!

I'm sure plenty of people have approached him in the past with no success. I think he is just fond of it and will never sell regardless of the offers or complaints he gets about it. A bit like the guy down the road from him with a rusty cruise liner is a field. It must be a North East Wales thing.

I'd be more worried about wrapping it around a tree. Mk1 Fester panels are getting scarce. I must get a photo of the one in New Brighton with the Pac Man graphics on the bonnet.

After i have sorted out the bits of welding i'm hoping the old man will get it insured and use it.Which is highly unlikely as he has a duff back.I don't want it sitting for a month or two - If it comes to that i will happily lend it to someone local (If anyone of you are interested)Shame about the guy not willing to share his parts / car to help others out.I'm not really up for "borrowing" stuff as shit always hits the fan with me, even if i am not in the wrong. So cant be bothered with the hassle. But if anyone has any Mk1 XR2 bits for sale soon  Sorry that the pictures are taking a life time (82%)Edit:Warren the company HADRIAN still do panels for Mk1'sSo they are not that hard to get hold of. Or use a battered Mk1 as a donor. The lad who turned up at the viewing of the car (if you have read the grumpy thread you will know what i mean)... his brother has a seriously mint Mk1 in Brown. I will have to get him to come to the Eastham meet (When it can be organised)

The cheapest way to get Mk1 XR2 bits is to buy a Mk1 XR2! They seem to be worth more broken for bits. I'd look out for some Capri Laser alloys and maybe a set of 5 and a half inch spotlamps. Dont do anything to it that cannot be put back to standard.

Yeah i am hopefully going to get the HELLA lamps off Watanabe and see what they look like on it .But that now depends on how bad the rear arch and rear lower valance is,As i have not had alot of time to propperly check themFingers crossed it's only surface rust !

Love Mk1 Fiestas, had mine since 1993!!I've got a 1983 Ford brochure sitting next to me so I'll scan the relavant page tomorrow.I did speak to the owner of the black XR2...he said he had owned it from new and was going to restore it 'someday' Somehow I doubt it as it is too far gone really and would need a donor shell.

Thanks Retro' that would be great :)I did get some paper work with the car, but been too busy getting it out of the way and looking at the shiny Ashtray courtesy car the old man got today.

I like that. Alot. Doesnt look bad from what I can see either. You did well!

Not seen one like that for a little while, I like the age related scars on the drivers door as well. There's a old boy i see in Colchester with a blue one i keep meaning to photo, Does it need much work?.

Posted

Hey, not bad at all that. Inner wings ok I take it?

Posted

Nice one dude.... looks pretty solid, should make a nice motor when it's done. I'm really hankering for a MK1 as my first car...maybe I should get one to motivate me to take my test?

Posted

What sort of camera you using? Interesting fish-eye lens thing you using!

Posted

Nice!Don't take too much apart for the moment, drive it and see what it needs. You'll be kicking yourself if you've spent a week repairing the rusty door if the gearbox, engine and sills are all knackered.

haha Pog if you gave me £80 i would be loosing out BIG TIME !Trigger.. Erm "YES" is the simple answer. It needs the Front screen removing and the scuttle replaced (Only a small amount, but as soon as the weather is permitting i will crack on)I also want to tidy up the welds done by a garage to get it through the MOT.Both bumpers need straightening as the lady who owned it before me liked tapping a tree and small wall. The drivers door (as you can see) needs sorting for tree related reasons. The N/s door is rotten at the bottom, and the window doesn't moove. The rear were the Valance meets the arch is rotten (Drivers side)And the motor for the heating doesn't work.It also needs new rear wheel bearings.Yeah Cavette the inner wings are surprisingly in okay nick, although it needs a tiny bit of welding by the Bonnet stay hinge.Ooh and on the firewall by the plate.Barette - DO IT !Just don't rush into buying one, and be sure to check all over the car before commiting. (Be careful too as alot have been "re-shelled" or Ringed)55Bloke - It's wasn't my camera it was my best mates, he took the pictures for me. (If it were me i would have LOTS more pictures of rust, holes and sweetcorn in the passenger pocket)garethj - As i have not passed my test (Yet) and i am sure you lot will all hassle me, i cannot enjoy it fully at the moment.I plan to get the wheel bearings ordered in soon (Money permitting. Not bothered about the weather) and fit them, then try get my old man to insure with me on his policy, and run around with L plates on for now. Thanks for the interest everyone !Is anyone local good with a panel beating kit ? - As i want to try get that horrid door dint out, but fear i will make it worse

That's quite a list, I hope you didn't pay too much for it :? I still see lots of these around these parts and it wasn't long ago when you could pick a tidy one up for £150 with mot. You'd be better of finding a rotten scrapper and raping it for parts.

Yeah it is alot, but it doesn't scare me (Not to be big headed or nothing), as i have been tinkering with cars since a stupidly young age.I also have very supportive parents, which will help motorvate me and keep me focused. As for money "IF ONLY" i had seen a tidy example for £150 i could of easily brought it and had lots of change to do any work needed. It did annoy me when i went to buy the car as it was advertised "Or Nearest Offer" so i made a close offer and she said "You know what i want for it"So that did make me think well what was the point in putting "nearest offer" in the advert. If i want to sell it she said she would have it back in quick time, so that doesn't worry me.But let's not focus on the money, as this will hopefully be another old car put back to a good standard and safe !Edit:Todays Job, Strip out interior and check floor.Wish me luck !

It's great to see someone not going to crap the car up with " OMG roll cage fake XR-2 zetec chav/Classic Ford magazine type of crap, which these cars even though there's not many of them around, seem to suffer from.As for what you paid, anyone who says they can get a mint Mk1 for £50 are talking complete bollards, took me five years to get mine, you'll enjoy once it's up and running!
